On one hand minor nations struggle due to lacking leadership and therefore always fall behind on tech, on the other hand just organising the military of any major nation(outside of the USA who start with very little) often takes an hour before you unpause the game Edit: oh god he has the unit models on rather than nato counters
That you can set some parts as "ai controlled" I think is the thing we missing in hoi4. You could just be the general and the AI do the politics etc. I miss that
We needed that in hoi2/darkest hour. For me at least, the gameplay was incredibly slow even after i got used to all the mechanics. Really wish i could just have AI manage research in those games
I remember playing this years ago and I got nukes onto my icbms as Germany (took till about ‘60 to get the rockets across the Atlantic from my Iceland bases) and carpet nuked America because my invasions kept failing and their navy was insane until 1973 so we just launched waves of carriers and nukes at each other till I finally pushed them out of South America, landed in Canada, and lost insane manpower pushing them slowly back and launching waves of nuclear missles against their frontline, the battle of Chicago was like Stalingrad scale but with icbms raining down every time I needed to push or stop a counter attack, all the while they nuked my bases in the Atlantic and South American allies until they finally capped with every major city an irradiated mess. Good times

@@baaaseman if I was you skip 2 and play darkest hour which is basically a stand alone hoi2 with tons more content and waaaay more historically accurate. Lots more map tiles too. In some ways it’s better than hoi4 because of the events like you can trigger peace treaties without having to conquer everyone
@@baaaseman I recommend it highly. It’s a little bit dated now compared to Hoi4 but the post-war borders alone make it worth it. An example of if Germany beats USSR you get the “Bitter peace” event which is basically a surrender where Germany annexes everywhere up to the Urals. Which prolongs the game because eventful Stalin will sometimes try to take it back. The game goes well into the Cold War too, I believe the end date is 1962 and the technologies match up to it. Way better detailed and cleaner tech system. Battlefield controlling is more realistic and historical. The way much convenient AI agency mechanism. (Next are flaws) Almost useless political and ideology system. Very restricted diplomatic operational room. Worse data processing and software supporting which makes your computer stuck often in late game.
