  • A mix between a straightforward video essay and a more abstract collage, this video briefly delves into the loose movement known as slow cinema, using the 2015 Chinese film KAILI BLUES, directed by Bi Gan, as a focusing lens. Equal emphasis is given to analysis and creation of a mood befitting the subject matter.

Hey man, this video made me buy the movie. You should make more videos. Seriously. Kaili Blues has become one of my favorite films. I would be interested to know what your thoughts are on "A Long Journey..." when it comes out on Blu-ray.

Oh my Gosh I saw it at the theaters. Days Long Journey Into The Night was very interesting filming technique wise to watch. The 3-D section was a bit too long but worth the wait.

I think another of the "styles" that "members" of the Slow Cinema movement share is using less lighting exemplified in the films of Lav Diaz, Bela Tarr, and Alexander Sokurov. The dimmed colors contribute to the slowness.

Quite an interesting commentary. If you built in some pauses in your phrasing groups, it would be easier to listen to. Thanks.

I’m glad Storm Children got some recognition here because it’s underrated in my opinion, even among Diaz diehards. Probably because they don’t respect anything under five hours
