  • Mushroom Hunting - Morels and Spring Kings In this video I'm in the Oregon Cascade mountains, hunting for natural morel mushrooms. This has been a very strange season and the morels are very late. I cover many miles and elevations to finally find morels and spring kings fruiting below the snowline.
I show you where to look, what to look for, what other indicator species pop up at the same time as morels and kings, tree identification, etc., in hopes these tips will help you find your own morels and spring kings. These mushrooms grow throughout the PNW Cascades from April through June, are easy to identify and are amazingly delicious.

hello! Just subscribed to your channel- Im so glad I discovered it! I’ve been a mushroom hunter all my life since I was a little kid. I have my own hidden spots for different types of mushrooms around the Hood and coast:) And enjoyed watching your cool videos!
the only thing I was not sure about if the kings are actually growing in spring, that was something new for me! What would be your advice on when would be the best to look for them? Is late May (now) a good time? And at what elevation? Thanks so much and Happy spring hunting! ❤

Thank you for watching and your comments. I appreciate that you are enjoying my content.
Spring Kings do show up mid to late May through June and typically show up in the same areas as morels. Kings are starting to show up now, so be on the lookout for any bumps or shrumps or mounds of dirt, as Kings could be hiding just beneath the surface!
If you see me out in the forest, please say hello!
      Thanks for watching.

I need help finding those spring kings. Can't ever seem to find em. Elevation is my problem I'm assuming.

Your_Eulogy, thanks for your comment. Elevation may be your issue. Kings show up between 3500-4000’ in the cascades and in fir forests. If you don’t have a GPS to tell you the elevation, you can use the compass app on your iPhone or download a compass app on an android and both will tell you the elevation. Good luck.
