I can tell you exactly what day Todd left Penske Racing South. It was October 23, 1995. I know this because it was my first day as Engine Department Manager. Todd came and talked to me about my new endeavor. I'll keep the details of our conversation private, but I will say that he offered his help to me if I ever felt I needed it. Todd is a first class guy, as is all of the Parrott family.
I went to work for Robert and Doug Yates in the Fall of 1999. I remember how excited the entire RYR organization was to win the Cup Championship. I was proud reach out to Todd and offer my congratulations. There's so much more to Todd's story, but that's for him to tell. Thank you Todd for the tradition of kissing the Yard of Bricks.

Todd Parrott was a great crew chief and his chemistry with Dale Jarrett was instant magic from the start and he even was crew chief for Dale Jarrett's last victory at Talladega in 2005. Todd's always been a guy that is very emotional and you can tell how much Rusty Wallace meant to him and Robert Yates and Dale Jarrett meant to him. Things certainly don't come easy in life and you appreciate the guys that helped get you there. I kind of figured this podcast was going to be a bit of a tear-jerker.

Great response, Evan Williams- very well stated. Sometimes an opportunity presents itself that you just can't pass up, and you owe it to yourself to grow in your profession. Even though the move was really a no-brainer, his emotions show how truly difficult it was to move on from a good situation and a guy (Rusty) who meant a lot to him.

Dale's interviews show that there is more to NASCAR than just driving in a circle every weekend. There are relationships built among the drivers, the crew chiefs, the rest of the crew...some good, some bad...how often do you see these kinds of emotions 20, 30 or 40 years later in other sports?
