@@jonnykhatru Deakin seems to have gained a lot more confidence in his writing and singing over the years. I think the critical acclaim of Sleep Cycles gave him a much needed boost to his confidence. Royal and Desire is such a great, mellow, smooth song. Probably my favorite on the album.
Aww, you're making me teary-eyed with your MPP reminiscing. I miss you too, buddy! This album is lovely and feels like a plaster for the pandemic. I think they only let Deakin have one lead song on an album because otherwise everyone would realise he is secretly the best vocalist!
I really didn't expect Deakin to unleash that soul! He nailed it. I rambled for ages on the stream about memories of all their albums and live shows 😅 tried to be a bit more concise on here. So many great experiences!
I cannot wait for the follow-up coming within the year that should have Defeat on it. I have a feeling it will top their discography as their best work.
Good review. Although I have to say I'm a bit annoyed by the comment that the production is better than Painting With -- in fact I'm hearing stuff like that a lot. It's reverb. It's just reverb. Time and time again, if AnCo uses reverb, people love it, if they don't, they don't. It's pretty irritating honestly. I'm sorry that Painting With is bubbly and goofy at times, but I don't think it's objectively worse because it sounds less atmospheric. But anyway, I love Time Skiffs equally. I just think people need to get over the reverb lmao.
I am pleasantly surprised to see how many people love Car Keys though. I thought that was the odd ball song that only I'd appreciate, but everyone I've seen so far loves Car Keys as much as me. :D
It's really good, but I probably won't be compelled to return to it quite as often as I tend to re-visit painting with and centipede Hz, which is very often. There's just a ton more to get out of those two albums imo. I still think Time Skiffs is at least an 8 out 10 though
I wonder if this one will hold up to repeated listens for me. The sound is so wonderful but some of the tunes are very simple and I might get tired of them. Still very happy with the album too!
