    As compression can be a tricky affect to hear at times I'm making the high quality original raw audio from this video available to my Patreon supporters. If you'd like access to the audio sign up at bit.ly/DK-patreon

    In the world of compressors, the price is quite reasonable. In the world of Eurorack, it's premium but not unheard of. Tbh I balked more at the 28hp than the pricetag.
    I don't even mind the lack of CV control. I never use it on my L-1 compressor anyway. Compressor settings should be dialed in with purpose and focus.

    • @Rareos
      @Rareos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should use the CV on your L-1. It's so nice, and I feel no absence of focus when i do.

    wow, this seems to be as good as many traditional hardware rack vca compressors that I've heard, if not better. amazing smack and groove.

      Yeah absolutely in that category of gear, really well done by AGO.

    This compressor sounds really quite good as much I could tell from a TH-cam video

      Agreed. Especially on the more subtle examples.

      Totally. The THAT Corp VCA’s are used in the very best VCA compressors. I love the non stepped controls, especially on the attack release. They sold out in the UK almost immediately this video was released.

    So much great info. I also wanted to share another great primer on compression in modular, the one from VCV Rack Ideas (aka Artem Leonov). I'm sure there are many, but this one really opened my eyes. It uses VCV Rack, so it puts like 50 compressors all over the patch, which is impractical in hardware, but nevertheless it's got some great, practical advice.

      google "vcv rack ideas compression" to find it. (I have no affiliation to the channel, I just think ppl who read these comments might like that video.)

    How does the balanced input work in eurorack? Can you input a balanced line input with a s"stereo" mini jack?

    • @lifestrack8015
      @lifestrack8015 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes

    • @Rareos
      @Rareos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The signal is balanced if you feed it balanced and send the balanced signal a balanced input. Once you interface with 99% of eurorack modules it's unbalanced.

    3:40 I can't hear any difference whatsoever. Doesn't TH-cam compress the audio or something? On the other hand, maybe it's just me.

    How does this stack up to the Cosmotronic Messor?

  • @Rareos
    @Rareos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    €1,138.00. These guys have to believe they're Rupert Neve with these prices on relatively basic, studio quality mixer and compressors.
    The L-1 Midside Discrete Microcompressor already offers mastering grade sound in the format... as well as m/s, envelope outputs, cv over alle, for less then half the price.

    • @jmawa8616
      @jmawa8616 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      tested it at a friends... these guys are like Neve in a way. Honestly. It sounds really really good... I understand the price also is not fitting for me these days but that's 100% normal for a unit of this kind and compressor with these kind of building parts as well. also I don't believe someone try's to get rich with this stuff here either , as this aims for a very very small community

    • @Rareos
      @Rareos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmawa8616 comparison to Rupert Neve gear is just about how their price can be 50% higher based on the brand.

    • @jmawa8616
      @jmawa8616 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Rareos well the price tag of this unit we are talking about here is equally to a mono Neve pre amp. so I had this in mind.

    • @Rareos
      @Rareos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmawa8616 yes i hear you, i just meant the price relative to very similar products from other manufacturers. One example, Buzz Audio DBC-20 (beautiful hand-built diode bridge compressor from New Zealand) 1699€ in Germany. Rupert Neve 5254, 3590€. Both relatively similar in form. function and build quality. One company just sees themselves differently, and has the marketing budget.

    There is no bad compression only bad compressors
