I am LDS and I love this statement, and for any who disagree,
"What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same."

I am a gay mormon... and I am so thankful that the church has spoken up and set the record straight. This clarification is much needed, because alot of members still look down upon us, even though we have taken an extreme act of faith... by committing to celibacy in order to keep worthy and hold true to the principles to the Gospel. This is one of the hardest things ever to do, and to face the fact you may never have a family while here on earth... Love and Compassion is what is most needed!

We believe if someone acts on romantic attraction to someone of the same gender, it's not natural & not good for emotional & spiritual health. It's not good for kids they might raise- they would be confused about gender roles and not reach full potential.
If your parents say you're not allowed to do something because it's not safe, that you might get hurt, or hurt someone else, you wouldn't consider them to not be loving parents, would you? We need to trust God like kids trust their parents.

This was very well worded. It covered the doctrine (as opposed to the culture and attitudes that sometimes exists) with in the LDS church. I wish I would've had access to this growing up so that I could have clearly understood that I can embrace and be loyal to my own beliefs by using good judgment while not judging others (and BY not judging others). I am grateful that I just get to be friends and enjoy those around me no matter what choices they are making in their own lives.

My two former business partners were Mormon. They conducted themselves in business with honor, honesty and decency. Did they attempt to convert me? Certainly, they did. One of them gave me for Christmas a book containing the Old & New Testaments, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine & Covenants of the LDS Church and The Pearl of Great Price [by Joseph Smith]. I judge a person's character by the manner in which they treat others. My experience says that Mormons are good people.

The scripture must be read with proper context, and with the understanding that it has been written and translated by imperfect humans, thusly flaws and inconsistencies are bound to appear. It is up to the reader to seek the truth amidst the writings, and to discern the opinions of the writers from the word of god.

I am a firm believer in allowing marriage rights to all, but I will say this is very well stated, and I wish more Christians would follow the same sentiment. I disagree with, but respect the view. I am interested to know why any Church or faith would take issue with allowing same sex marriages to be performed outside of any churches that do not allow or condone it. Not all marriages are religious in nature, and they are recognized as nothing more than contracts on a state and federal level. How does fighting to allow those of the same sex equal contract rights take anything away from the churches? Nobody would be allowed to force any church to perform same sex marriages (you can't even force them to do heterosexual marriages), so it shouldn't be an issue.

    • @Sinsemilla4u
      @Sinsemilla4u 8 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm not sure I get the meaning of your first sentence, I know plenty of heterosexual couples that have gotten married because they want to.
As I stated in my initial comment, heterosexual couples can't even force a church to marry them, so even if a homosexual couple tried, there is no way that they would be able to either. If someone ever tried, even as an agnostic, I would be first in line to object to it.
I respect your beliefs on mothers and fathers raising Godly children, but I do not share them. I believe that as long as a child is raised in a loving, respectful environment, then that child will know how to treat others with love and respect. Your beliefs are fine for you, but you must also respect that not everyone is Christian or even religious in this nation.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts in a civil manner though, always appreciated. :)

@TheThelovelybeauty This is one of the most misunderstood and misused portions of Scripture! People who quote the phrase from Matthew 7:1, "Judge not, that ye be not judged." Most people will stop right there, and conclude, "Jesus said don't judge." But we've got to read on to see this in context, so that we can determine what he was really saying.

@taea04 "I may be wrong" I love it! Very true. I'd have a 'field day" analyzing a statement such as this! "I dont know why people are so concerned." Seriously? I think it's fine that people disagree, respectfully. I find it pretty easy to understand the beliefs of others. You simply have to "jump into" their mindset, or understand where they are coming from.

I stand with Glenn Beck, a devout Mormon, who has sent out a rallying cry against Vladamir Putin's persecution of Homosexuals. I also agree that changing the family institution to exclude a male or female role model at the head of a household is not a good idea. Have we not seen enough harm from children being raised without fathers in the home. It is possible to oppose persecution of gay people and also value the traditional family.

Finally, an indisputable and clear declaration of the Church's stance on same-sex attraction. I, like other members of the LDS faith, can see how this might be hard for some to hear, but I hope this news makes it clear that no matter the disagreement, there is never a need to belittle or demean others. I hope we as members can take that counsel as we interact with others of our faith who struggle with SSA, as well as those who happen to disagree with us.

This message couldn't have been said any better. The stand of all true followers of Christ is to love one another. Many religions including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints embrace this doctrine of love. Christ does not condone sin, but he loves everyone, and we are all sinners. We are sinners that need to repent, and be saved by His grace. We all need to be washed clean through Christ's atonement. We don't pick which sinners to love and which to bully. I love this message

I find it amazing that depspite anything the leaders of the Mormon church say about its beliefs or stance on any issue, people find every excuse to find fault with it. I'm gay myself... I'm also a Buddhist... I have met a few Mormons in my life, but never an unkind or hateful one. They may disagree with same-sex marriage, but they treat me well. They're good friends of mine... and they have invited me to move to their city (West Valley City and SLC)... They say that LGBT people can live in peace and respect in their city.
Well... I personally believe that Marriage should be ONLY a religious ceremony with no legal recognition. Yes, I believe in the abolition of Civil Marriage. But I do believe that adult couples that love each other must have the right to legally register their partnership.
And yes, I do believe in same-sex adoption.

Any particular sin is not the issue at all. Paul said all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The question for every single person is that knowing you are a sinner ( and anybody over the age of awareness is ), when you stand in front of a righteous God ( by righteous I mean holy, perfect, unassailable) and make a reconing for your life, are you going to rely on your own actions which are circumspect already, or rely on the only sacrifice worthy of God's forgiveness.

I am surprised how many people liked this video. I hope members of the Church understand how important it is to reach out and to love people who have very different opinions than we do. Likewise, I hope that those who do not share our beliefs at least understand that we are not a "hate" church. This video's goal (from where I am sitting) is not to convert but to promote understanding. The only conflict that arises with is debate comes when someone has not done their homework.

Hi Pantikian, I don't know about other religous people, but for us who belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly known as Mormons), we make a promise with God himself that we will share the truth (as we know it to be) with all who desire to listen. We are not commanded to preach to people even when those people are obviously not listening or against what we teach (not saying that all Mormon's follow this, there are some very zealous ones out there).

Being a Christian is not all about repentance - sure it is the way to salvation because Christ build that bridge with the cross for us, but it is only a piece of it. It is Faith, Remission of Sins, Baptism by proper authority, RECEIVING the GIFT of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. @XanderHamza What is it to politic anyway? It is the MEANS to purpetrate a specific END as one practices their profession. These "means" can be either beneficial (good) or else can be destructive (bad or even evil practices). Politicking can be dealing with people in an opportunistic, manipulative, or devious way, for the purpose of personal advancement and/or as a way to accomplish a mutual evil agenda. Churches have the moral responsibility to reveal the good and to warn of the evil.

In fact, you can find an official declaration of such in the Articles of Faith, a very simple list of what Latter Day Saints believe and dictate their faith upon. "We believe in... Obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law." Nothing our Church will tell us to do is illegal. However, we believe that our leaders have a right to help direct and guide us, even in political matters, where it may help our daily lives.

@goofyreligion3 The Church's position has never changed on this topic. It speaks out in the same manner as it did in 1830 - explain the sinful nature of the action (yes, *action*, not "feeling"), and call people to repentance & to resist the temptation.
The Lord doesn't love us any less because we sin, regardless of the nature of the sin. Sure, He may get angry sometimes, but that anger is ALWAYS out of an infinitely deep love for us.
    Brad Wilcox says it well:

In a democracy, everyone is allowed to have an opinion and to act on that opinion. To be effective in persuading others to share the same viewpoint, a person needs to be able to explain their reasoning behind their opinion. It does not matter what basis a person has, religious or otherwise, for that opinion - in America, we can act on it and advocate for it. And there are many reasons, religious and scientific, to say that same-sex sexual activity is harmful to society.

Surpassingly well spoken. I was kind of expecting a sort of crusade against homosexuality. This is actually the stance that most (all) people should take at the very least. That regardless of other people's ideas, feelings, and beliefs, they still deserve to be treated like people.

Since the very beginning Jehovah (Jesus Christ) condemned all things that lead to our eventual destruction. We were given commandments to help us circumvent physical and spiritual destruction while receiving the blessings that this life has to offer as we walk on the "strait and narrow path" that leads to life eternal (eternal joy and happiness). I am grateful to understand these principles of success that he gave us through His authorized servants as found in the scriptures.
