I never wanted P90s until today. That Epiphone LPJR is just brilliant!

I had that and the Gibson LP Special. They are very, very close. I think the Epi LP Special is the best Epi makes for the money.

Epiphone Wildkat belongs on this list. A semi-hollow with " 'kat's ear " P90's, everything from sweet round jazz and neo-soul tones through a full and rich yet subtle and dynamic blues tone. For < $600 USD.

I love how you play the GUITAR, by which I mean you play to the strengths of that model. You always show what is unique in each instrument. Some awesome instruments here, that Yamaha is so cool but those Epiphones sound incredible.

I got the gretsch & the yamaha, the yamaha is better imo, it's more expensive but worth the extra over the gretsch at least. I bought the gretsch online & didn't realise its got a gloss neck, much prefer satin or roasted maple.

Great review, but none of those guitars are "cheap", - more like inexpensive. The Antiquity models in particular all sound awesome for such low prices! Wow!

The word cheap is thrown around like the word affordable a lot in the UK. It pretty much means the same thing. But in places like the US, cheap means of poor standard.

I have the Gretsch in mint color and the Epiphone LP Special and I have to say that the Epiphone P90 Pro sound much better as well as being a better guitar overall They both have the same short scale and I love that. For the price they are great guitars.

My Epiphone ES-339 is my favorite guitar. It feels like the best of both worlds with the semi-hollow tone and vibes, and the more comfortable (to me) solid-body size. I have one of the old ES-339 Pros with coil-splits, and the coil-splits sound way more accurate to the few single-coil guitars I've tried than the coil-splits on my Epiphone Les Paul, which only seem to make a very minor difference to the sound when engaged. I like the more vintage-looking tuners and the coil-splits on the old models, so feel their new "Inspired by Gibson" ES-339s are a bit of a ripoff considering they are charging more for fewer features.

For me, the 2 stand-our guitars are the Epiphone Les Paul Special (P-90s) in yellow, and the Gretsch G2215 P-90 Streamliner. Without having played either of them myself as yet, I susect that the Epiphone would win the day - but I'd be open to persuasion. After all, I've gone into guitar shops before with the intention of buying one particular guitar and have walked out with an entirely different one. You never actually KNOW what's best for you until you've played it.

The Vintage brand ( Trev Wilkinson hardware and PU’s ) are an exceptional choice in the same price range as all the guitars you demo’d. I just bought their T72 reissue Telecaster with the mini bucket in the neck position. Quality build quality playability and tone.

I'm that case I'll direct you to my own comment to Dagan above. Try the Epi Wildkat. Its center block so it over drives nicely, the p90s are full but dynamic like a single coil, and the chambers somehow just seem to let the guitar "breathe" in a way solids just dont. I play Fender solid bodies, it sounds right for single coil, but there's something special about the Wildkat.
