    100% agree. When I was in college, I used to lock myself in a room for months to study for exams. And when the exams were over and I started having social interactions, I knew what I wanted to say but I would fumble my words. Speaking is a motor skill. You need practice.

      The problem is not the speaking. It’s translating from the mind to the mouth. Thoughts are much faster and more abstract than words, so you need to find a way to slow down and organise your thoughts with a particular rhythm so they can “flow” to your mouth.

    I recently came to realize that because I spent a lot of time by myself when I was little I learned to be by myself and think but not express my thoughts or feelings. I thought I was shy but I think my mom and dad didn’t teach me to interact with other people from a young age. I played with kids my age but that didn’t translate into making me expressive. I think it’s something that needs to be trained by parents from an early age. I encouraged my daughters when they were little - to introduce themselves to adults and carry on small conversation. They both grew up extroverted and comfortable expressing themselves. Im so proud of them. As for me, I’m work in progress.

      Some parents are great, but they were educated the same, so they didn't know how to handle the education of their children when it came to socialization. They weren't thought either. I don't want to blame my parents, I love them, but because I'm shy and introverted without friends in my 33, partially, it's their fault too.

    Yeah, my childhood was not so good and I was the quiet kid who would play alone in a corner. My observation skills are insane but I used to struggle a lot and relied on my best friend (an extrovert) to do all of the talking. Then I started working in a call center to support myself through college and it took me solid 3 years to make that mind and mouth connection. Keep in mind that it took me 3 years of talking with strangers for 4 hours a day to have a good connection and I’m still working on it to be great.

    I grew up as a single child and my father was mostly out for work. And I didn't have many friends where I lived. So I grew up as an introvert.
    But my communication skills are still good.
    And I think the main reason behind that is that I learned to talk to myself as a kid and I still do. Doing even that is enough in my opinion, because in the end all that matters is how you speak and articulate, not who you are talking to.

    When I was young and I think like this still. The less someone knows about me, the better I sleep at night, because there is less for others to use against me.
    I know it is stupid, but it actually helped me cope with anxiety.

    • @bodawei425
      @bodawei425 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It's not stupid, I find it interesting on the contrary. But there is a point on which we are all mistaken: other people think much LESS about us than we imagine. They care much LESS about us than we think. Tell me how many strangers you crossed today that you could describe? Even if they looked a little original or strange or funny. You don't think about it or only 2 seconds, then you move on. Would you imagine that they should worry about your judgement about them? No. Even for people that we know, actually. I think you should try to open, progressively, to people you think you can trust. You will realize you don't risk much and it will open you some possibilities. Of course sometimes you will be disappointed. Be ready for it. It will not kill you.

I know it’s possible it took them longer to think over there writing but I believe they had any good insights on the spot. I don’t mean to sound nasty, but there were some kids who just loved to talk in class and their comments were good but not great and some were very confusing. And there's a concept called "translanguaging" and if you master your second language (or are a high-level SL learner), you can naturally switch between your 2 languages when you speak!

    omg! so relatable, I thought I was the only one. and when I explained why it happened to me, it made me feel like I blamed on the pandemic. In fact, my tongue, mouth muscle, and jaw movements were kinda tough to move. I stuttered and even twisted my tongue while speaking. this makes me just mad.

    Ngl. I started doing smalltalk ai. Not sure what it is called really but it has cool ai prompts and it tests your speaking ability.
    Spending like 20 minutes on it just doing exercises has improved my confidence a ton.
    Better than reading out loud only or talking to myself.

      Your thoughts are exponential from your talking, trick is…whomsoever you are talking with, connect your talking to their thinking. You’ve done the thinking, now connect your talking to bridge to their thinking. Always start a conversation prepared, but flexibility and adaptation will help with their talking. Boom, bonds form.

      Practice. I think he's suggesting that you need to practice talking in order to get better at communication. He often suggests talking in front of a mirror or recording yourself talking. The more you practice, the better you get.
