Aziz mian is by far one the greatest artist to ever do service to Sufism and Qawwali genre. His raw energy, passion and command over the works of great sufi masters enabled him to perform with such power that his qawwalis are part of a new genre all together. Bless his soul. Had a lot to say and was a great story teller. One story would lead to another which will blend into a poem, which will blend into a qawali which will lead to yet another story. sharabi is one who is intoxicated, usually by drink, but the point of the qawaali is that one can be intoxicated in a spiritual sense, not through drink or drugs.
Intoxication of any kind is haram, whether in a religious sense or not. Once you lose your consciousness and don't know what you're saying, then it's pretty un-Islamic.
Aziz Mian situation was the same as one of the most popular Sufi scholar in Indonesia...Syekh Siti Jenar ....Both of them tried to explain what they teaching about loving of Allah...but some ignorant people thought they are crazy & was out of context in Islam.......

@RanaQuetta wow! exactly! to experience the divine is to celebrate life and love and to triumph over sorrow and suffering. this is the true meaning of 'being drunk'. if you experience the true nature of divinity people will think you are drunk or mad, because they have not had the mystical experience. roses and wine have deep symbolic meaning. the beloved is beautiful and divine. the mystics are divinely intoxicated. ordinary people think they are crazy drunks - but they know the real truth.
great qawwal and a great qawwali, nusrat gets a little too much credit for his qawwalis, he was mad good but aziz mian is so unique and his style is just unbeatable, aziz mian 4eva
1.( I am going to have to give my answer in 3 post because it dosent allow more than 500 words I Have listened to this qawwali about 30 times ( no joke!). And because I didn't understand it, I didn't really pay any attention to it, but when you mentioned it, this got me thinking. Here Wine is used as many metaphorical meanings and one of them is Knowledge,
I wish I could understand Urdu. I like his melodies and can tell that he is also relaying a message to the listeners, especially when I recognize some of the names of blessed individuals (like Ali Hujweri, RAA). Too bad there are no Arabic or English translations of what he is saying out there.

So in other words only High people can drink wine(of knowledge), people like Rumi, attar etc. What its trying to say is that, we are the people without sense/knowledge so if we drank it (without knowledge), it would devastate us, but when a beloved ( mashook) offers it to you,(Believed could be a person with knowledge of a person very close to God), you shouldn't be reluctant to take it, because the person thinks you are ready to

I'm reading thess posts about interpretation of this qawalli. Here's my take. Near the end of the video he says "desi na piyon ga, waliyon ke tasaduk mein vilayet ki pila de" He's basically to alcohol not the knowledge or any other abstract menaing someone might want to give it. One can decide for oneself. I drink. I like it and, as an independant man, i decide for myself and you should too.

I'm reading thess posts about interpretation of this qawalli. Here's my take. Near the end of the video he says "desi na piyon ga, waliyon ke tasaduk mein vilayet ki pila de" He's basically to alcohol not the knowledge or any other abstract menaing someone might want to give it. One can decide for oneself. I drink. I like it and, as an independant man, i decide for myself and you should too.
