Regarding the 2nd clip that was talking about the laziness of the One Punch Man event, I think he's referring more towards how the skins he referenced have actually unique models and details, while the Kiriko and Soldier skins are just previous skins with like three details being changed at most. I know I personally was very disappointed with the Soldier skin (mostly the gun) being a carbon copy of Bug Hero. A primary example of this would be the Mime skin for Moira, to help provide an idea as to what I (and ultimately the Tik Tok creator) are talking about. On a side note, I do agree that it was wrong of the creator to try and weaponize his opinion like Flats points out when reading the comments.

What kinda gets me the most about the skins is A: No unqiue voicelines/sound fx B: Genji's hair. I highly doubt it would have caused that much of an issue for his hair to look like Genos'. Especially given how different Genji's Blizzcon skin looks with the horns+hair C: Soldiers Gun. Not upset about Bug Hero/Mumen rider skin looking the same since Mumen rider is based off of Kamen Rider aka the bug hero and they look similar. But his weapon is the same but brown and thats really upsetting

Thanks for watching my video brother, I def think you missed the points i was making a tad bit but it's fine, all love at the end of the day. was just saying they've done things better before without ruining "a figure" and for their first Collab the "not wanting to change a character to much" doesn't really apply or is something they can use an excuse for cutting corners or holding themselves back. when previous skins have done much more to the characters and still retained the heroes identity, giving kiriko a proper dress isn't going to ruin anything the same way giving her a witch hat didn't ruin anything. as for the brig skin, I only mentioned it because it was a skin that had special sounds and stuff thats tied to it, as an example that blizzard should be providing more of that type of stuff for their crossover skins to help make them special. (NOT the twitch controversy surrounding it) for their first collab ever i wanted and expected more, and they took 2 skins put a new coat of paint on it and a wig/helmet, and is saying it's equivelant in terms of value as the valentine hanzo skin, when there's clearly more time and attention to detail spent on hanzos. its insane and super deflating. just gotta hope they do better and don't hide behind this fear or idea of "not wanting to change characters to much" for why the skins didn't go all out.
dude, you were so in the right about the skin. doomfist skin, it is a great skin but its not something i personally care about. its a character i dont play in a role i dont play. kiriko on the other hand i play a ton of and was impressed it was gonna be tatsumaki. but then i saw the reveal for the skin and noticed right away that it wasnt absolutely accurate at all to the character. was really disappointing and blizzard absolutely dropped the ball with her. and to top it of, they sold it as a legendary.
I think the video critiquing the skins makes somewhat sense, I was disappointed they didn’t give kiriko a more unique look. I think what’s aggravating is that they make entirely new models and textures for new skins, but the collab was just a re-use
To be fair, in bronze an Ana nade is often worth more than your DPS! So the 7v7 thing makes sense 😂 (I am a gold support and a bronze DPS, so I'm not biased at all lol)
When it comes down to it it's all about the price. People are upset about collab skin cause of the high price despite lack of changes compared to same priced legendary skin etc. I feel like there would be lot less complaint in general if current prices just got cut in half all around.
5:15 "they don't want to ruin the figure of the character, that's a poor excuse" when he said that I immediately knew he had no idea wtf he was talking about. Messing with a character silhouette can be one of the most game ruining things in designing cosmetics for a character. I tend to compare overwatch to tf2, as they are generally comparable in a lot of ways, and tf2 shows what happens when you take cosmetics and alter that silhouette in extreme cases (lazypurple actually brings this up at one point in "how it feels to play sniper"). While I don't love all the skins the OW team has put out, they deserve praise for making some straight up fantastic skins that maintain the original silhouette of their characters. One of my personal favorites is the pharah ghost armor.
you missed his points after though where they go crazy on designs and people still know who theyre fighting based on their voiec lines, stances, the way they walk. it would make no difference to put a little more effort in the tatsumaki skin but they just went mostly with a recoloring.
I can't believe how hard flats shilled the OPM collab while trying to explain he wasn't shilling. The soldier skin was a recolor, the kiriko skin was a recolor, the genji skin's hair was trash, and the doom skin was the only decent one. Anyone paying 40 dollars for 2 pieces of garbage and A SINGLE decent skin shouldn't be trusted with money.
It seems a lot of people don't understand this (I know that's does since he went to school for business) is that a colab involves two parties. Both parties get paid. So if they went all out on the Doomfist skin and done simpler changes to Soldier and Kiri, they are still going to charge those premiums due to this being a colab. That's most likely the reason for the bundle since that is a better perceived value and both can share in the profit since it is a colab.

I don't get why Flats is so confused. The legendary outfits we've had in the past for other characters have been drastically different to their base outfit, in some cases even more drastic than the changes would be between base kiriko and tatsumaki kiriko, and yet we've never had issues determining characters before. You use their silhouette, their voicelines, the way they carry themselves, their footsteps, their equipment to determine the character as well. Your logic is inconsistent. You literally cannot be ok with old legendary outfits but against doing a proper Tatsumaki Kiriko.
I agree with the OW x One Punch skin stuffs. Yea, they played it safe but it's not like the skins are bad as a result. I can still tell who is who and I can see who it is they are meant to look similar to, so I'd say it works out. Edit: This guy seems to just have a hate for Legendary skins.

Kiriko having tatsumakis dress isnt going to make new let alone veteran players go "WHO TF IS THAT!?" by your logic, it wouldve been a-ok for Genji to look 100% like Genos because its the same build, still has the sword, still recognizably a cyborg.
While the one punch man skins were hideous I kind of agree with flats regarding not changing the character too much. Saying that what about the Kiriko mythic skin, which completely changes how she looks?

Soldier is a completely new model from his base skin (even if assets are re-used from bug hero) so it doesn't make much sense to make it an epic. I think its fine as far as free legendary skins go.
The flats take on the OPM skins is hella biased, they could’ve done more and everybody would’ve known what characters they are bc of the face, weapons/kit and voice. Plus the icons for the character when u check the starboard mid match.

I don't regret getting the Brig skin. It didn't go to Blizzard and I was able to support the OW streamer I wanted to. Nice to know it helped Flats pay his student loan debt.
to be fair with the one punch kiriko skin giving her just a normal dress would not make it hard to tell who the character is, so its quite valid to argue they were a bit lazy there
yeah, I agree like in the witch skin the shape of her dress was a bit altered too and nobody has problems recognizing her (not to mention the big hat that alters her silouhette pretty dramatically) the one punch skin just looks a bit plain in comparison, especially because the dress has to be monochrome black, so it would have been nice if they had played around with different textures and shapes at least

While I'm not going to be harsh on blizzard for their first collab I can't fully agree with flats. Giving Kirko sleeves and more of dress doesn't make anyone unaware of who she is. Also I don't think he is aware they took the gun from a battle pass soldier to skin and put it on a crossover. The fact it's a crossover should basically cut out the idea of reusing assets imo since it's supposed to be really special. I also think crossover skins should be their own rarity but that isn't that big. Either way I think this is one time Flats is being overly protective of blizzard but I understand cause if we are to harsh they may never do it again. Doesn't mean we can't critique though and the fact he isn't aware there are NO special voicelines attached to the skins or sound effects with kiriko only having the change of her fox being more turquoise (like imagine a bit of music playing when doom ulted or did a fully empowered punch or genji having robotic engine sounds when reloading or when dashing). Edit: and now flats acts like because the main skin of the collab is fully unique we can't criticize the rest. Dude wasn't saying that any of those skins were confusing, he was saying that they weren't confusing even though they were much bigger departures from the main look of the character than the new OPM skins, which means Blizz's entire argument of worrying about going over the line and ruining character identity was just bs to cover the fact that they put as little effort into a cashgrab as they could get away with. You don't identify characters based on fashion sense anyway, you identify them with things like character model size, running animation, sound and look of primary fire, footstep noise. Its information like that that's important not to change, kiriko and soldier did not NEED to have assets from basically entire skins reused just to maintain character identity, but Blizz did that anyway because why put effort into something when people will clearly pay the money regardless?

Kiriko's skin is just a blackened version of her basic skin with a fubuki wig on. I have OPM poster with all characters on it and I look at Fubki them I look at the Kiriko skin and just laugh

He was making the argument that Blizzard *do* changes that are drastic and still maintain the hero identity, so the excuse of "Kiriko's skin is only a recolor so we can maintain the silhouette" goes out the window when you realize other skins with major modifications exist. What I like to bring up in this argument is that, Kiriko has a skin that literally gets rid of her skirt. (Athleisure) So the idea that we can't have a kiriko skin that doesnt have the same skirt shape is just not true. They could've changed the skirt shape, they could've given her a new dress instead of a recolor, and still maintained the hero identity.

@Carlos Johnson That isn't really what some people are upset about? They're upset about a perceived lack of effort in the Kiriko (and to a lesser extent Soldier) skins from the collab. Kiriko's legendary skin being a recolor and a wig is seen by some players as not worthy of full legendary price. I don't think anyone cares if someone is attracted to Kiriko's bare legs.
Flats over here basically agreeing with the skins TikTok, but doesn't know it. They could have easily given Kiriko a MUCH closer looking skin to Tatsumaki, but as it stands, they gave her legs, some black paint, and wig. That shit would be an Epic in OW1, but they called it a Legendary. Blizz could have given her a proper dress, and some sleeves, and no one would be confused.

Even if the bundle for all 3 skins plus everything costed 20$ instead which is very "reasonable" does that make sense. The witcher 3 plus all the dlcs regularly sells for 9$. the Kiriko skin should have had at least a bit of a custom sculpt, I understand wanting to retain the design attributes of the hero but charging $19 for what is essentially a fancy recolor is horrible. Soldier is a recolor but it’s not super obvious and works well with the design of Mumen Rider, i have 0 issue with that skin but i can never get over how Kiriko’s skin looks
That guy was completely right about the Kiriko and Soldier skins. The Soldier had a ton of reused assets, but that was free so who cares. The Kiriko skin however does not deserve the legendary tag and has no right being the same price as something like Cupid Hanzo.

I think the video critiquing the skins makes somewhat sense, I was disappointed they didn’t give kiriko a more unique look. I think what’s aggravating is that they make entirely new models and textures for new skins, but the collab was just a re-use

Messing with a character silhouette can be one of the most game ruining things in designing cosmetics for a character. I tend to compare overwatch to tf2, as they are generally comparable in a lot of ways, and tf2 shows what happens when you take cosmetics and alter that silhouette in extreme cases (lazypurple actually brings this up at one point in "how it feels to play sniper").
While I don't love all the skins the OW team has put out, they deserve praise for making some straight up fantastic skins that maintain the original silhouette of their characters. One of my personal favorites is the pharah ghost armor.
you missed his points after though where they go crazy on designs and people still know who theyre fighting based on their voiec lines, stances, the way they walk. it would make no difference to put a little more effort in the tatsumaki skin but they just went mostly with a recoloring.

I can't believe how hard flats shilled the OPM collab while trying to explain he wasn't shilling. The soldier skin was a recolor, the kiriko skin was a recolor, the genji skin's hair was trash, and the doom skin was the only decent one. Anyone paying 40 dollars for 2 pieces of garbage and A SINGLE decent skin shouldn't be trusted with money.
It seems a lot of people don't understand this (I know that's does since he went to school for business) is that a colab involves two parties. Both parties get paid. So if they went all out on the Doomfist skin and done simpler changes to Soldier and Kiri, they are still going to charge those premiums due to this being a colab. That's most likely the reason for the bundle since that is a better perceived value and both can share in the profit since it is a colab.

Its the pricing on the heros that require little to no effort to make, the fact they hardly differ from other much better skins, usually worse too but still maintaining a near 15- $20 price tag is nuts. I don't get why Flats is so confused. The legendary outfits we've had in the past for other characters have been drastically different to their base outfit, in some cases even more drastic than the changes would be between base kiriko and tatsumaki kiriko, and yet we've never had issues determining characters before. You use their silhouette, their voicelines, the way they carry themselves, their footsteps, their equipment to determine the character as well.
Your logic is inconsistent. You literally cannot be ok with old legendary outfits but against doing a proper Tatsumaki Kiriko.
I agree with the OW x One Punch skin stuffs. Yea, they played it safe but it's not like the skins are bad as a result. I can still tell who is who and I can see who it is they are meant to look similar to, so I'd say it works out.

Why is it okay for other characters to have drastic style changes and still be recognizable, but not for the Crossovers to have drastic style changes even when they'd still be very recognizable. Kiriko having tatsumakis dress isnt going to make new let alone veteran players go "WHO TF IS THAT!?" by your logic, it wouldve been a-ok for Genji to look 100% like Genos because its the same build, still has the sword, still recognizably a cyborg.

While I'm not going to be harsh on blizzard for their first collab I can't fully agree with flats. Giving Kirko sleeves and more of dress doesn't make anyone unaware of who she is. Also I don't think he is aware they took the gun from a battle pass soldier to skin and put it on a crossover. The fact it's a crossover should basically cut out the idea of reusing assets imo since it's supposed to be really special. I also think crossover skins should be their own rarity but that isn't that big. Either way I think this is one time Flats is being overly protective of blizzard but I understand cause if we are to harsh they may never do it again. Doesn't mean we can't critique though and the fact he isn't aware there are NO special voicelines attached to the skins or sound effects with kiriko only having the change of her fox being more turquoise (like imagine a bit of music playing when doom ulted or did a fully empowered punch or genji having robotic engine sounds when reloading or when dashing).
Edit: and now flats acts like because the main skin of the collab is fully unique we can't criticize the rest. That guy wasn't getting flamed by flats cause his points were as effective as splashing water on a raging forest fire.

Dude wasn't saying that any of those skins were confusing, he was saying that they weren't confusing even though they were much bigger departures from the main look of the character than the new OPM skins, which means Blizz's entire argument of worrying about going over the line and ruining character identity was just bs to cover the fact that they put as little effort into a cashgrab as they could get away with. You don't identify characters based on fashion sense anyway, you identify them with things like character model size, running animation, sound and look of primary fire, footstep noise. Its information like that that's important not to change, kiriko and soldier did not NEED to have assets from basically entire skins reused just to maintain character identity, but Blizz did that anyway because why put effort into something when people will clearly pay the money regardless?

Missed the point about the skins, you ended up proving OP's point. He was making the argument that Blizzard *do* changes that are drastic and still maintain the hero identity, so the excuse of "Kiriko's skin is only a recolor so we can maintain the silhouette" goes out the window when you realize other skins with major modifications exist.
What I like to bring up in this argument is that, Kiriko has a skin that literally gets rid of her skirt. (Athleisure) So the idea that we can't have a kiriko skin that doesnt have the same skirt shape is just not true. They could've changed the skirt shape, they could've given her a new dress instead of a recolor, and still maintained the hero identity.

@Carlos Johnson That isn't really what some people are upset about? They're upset about a perceived lack of effort in the Kiriko (and to a lesser extent Soldier) skins from the collab. Kiriko's legendary skin being a recolor and a wig is seen by some players as not worthy of full legendary price. I don't think anyone cares if someone is attracted to Kiriko's bare legs.
Flats over here basically agreeing with the skins TikTok, but doesn't know it.
They could have easily given Kiriko a MUCH closer looking skin to Tatsumaki, but as it stands, they gave her legs, some black paint, and wig. That shit would be an Epic in OW1, but they called it a Legendary. Blizz could have given her a proper dress, and some sleeves, and no one would be confused.

the Kiriko skin should have had at least a bit of a custom sculpt, I understand wanting to retain the design attributes of the hero but charging $19 for what is essentially a fancy recolor is horrible. Soldier is a recolor but it’s not super obvious and works well with the design of Mumen Rider, i have 0 issue with that skin but i can never get over how Kiriko’s skin looks

That guy was completely right about the Kiriko and Soldier skins. The Soldier had a ton of reused assets, but that was free so who cares. The Kiriko skin however does not deserve the legendary tag and has no right being the same price as something like Cupid Hanzo.
