Agreed , sounds to me like a love lost and regretted. Maybe the singer didn't give enough of their time and commitment to their partner. The line "Here I Stand and look at my life, barren cold and incomplete.. " that is the heartbreaker for me, Regrets and dreams not fulfilled, wishing you could do things over. He still loves her but he can't fix things or turn back the clock. So now all he has is his memories of their time together.
