  • A few wrestling takedowns that are great for self defense situations, but can also be applied to combat sports such as Jiu Jitsu or MMA. Minimal wrestling experience is required to hit these takedowns, so give them a shot!

If you are talking the last one, so do I. Been working on it a bit trying to hit it live. It is a beautiful pass but it has to be set up properly

A really good video, thank you for pass on this knowledge.
I'm shorty, but strong and I thought to myself that if I need to fight for self-defense the grappling/wrestling/BJJ would be the safest options for me.

I am a kickboxer, and one of my coaches told me that you never want to try throwing a low kick at a wrestler, because that is what they are exactly waiting for. As soon as you try to throw a low kick at them, they will just grab your leg and throw you.

If you kick their calf it will be too low to grab unless you are fighting some long arm freak

thats true even if its not a wrestler, which is why in self defense often you avoid high kicks.

I sparred a friend on concrete once. Shot a double, banged up my knee, ended up with staph on my elbow. I will never shoot a double again. The ouchi gari has the same problem. You land on your knee.
Leaving the arm in with the body lock on the outside trip leaves you open for a seoi nage. I really like the last takedown though.

    great simple useful takedown.
im not a fan of double and single legs because they are too risky and require too much commitment. Clinch takedowns are much safer and flow easier from punches.
See: Fedor almost never used single and doubles for his many successful takedowns.

I look for the inside sweep, then ankle picks, and then single legs. Ultimately with the goal to chain them all together if possible. Double legs are very risky in my opinion, especially when it comes to jiu jitsu

Thank you very much for sharing your information!!!! Wrestling and grappling could be very dangerous anyways. You need to be sure that the other person doesn't have any kind of weapon and that he doesn't have any friends. And, by the way, there is a reason why cops don't like to wrestle with random people besides the previous reasons. It's that people can stink. And you don't know when was the last time he or she took a bath, if the person has shit on his pants, etc.

Love these. Thoughts on the body fold takedown? Typically done more from the side but still doable as you work through those positions. One of my old coaches loved the body fold because you can get the takedown and remain on your feet which provides an assortment of options.

How is wrestling effective against someone three times heavier than you? I always liked wrestling but it's not popular in my country. I've done Greco-Roman wrestling before and I liked it

I just approach the situation a little differently if I am against someone bigger than me. The takedowns in this video do work against bigger individuals, otherwise I focus on utilizing angles and looking for ankle pics

this has always been my biggest issue.. which is actually why i wanted to learn wrestling, because no many ppl show how to use wrestling effectively as a much lighter or skinny person

I mean, avoid contact at all costs. You can't expect much succed being, eg, at 145 lbs against a 200+ dude.

You'd be surprised how many people are completely clueless with any type of grappling, regardless of size if you grab somebody's leg or shoot a duck under and they're not expecting it they won't know what's happening before they're on their back. You can strike from above or subdue and get away.

My question is; if we grab someone like this in a street fight, won't we get hit in our nuts by his knees?

    • @staysafemartialarts
      @staysafemartialarts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

always risk of knees, but if you are going in for the takedown, that will happen too fast for them to really throw effective knees. If you are fighting within the clinch though, always watch for knees
