I think the following is a good explanation and theory of Ivy - someone called Jules Gnu commenting on another reaction video had this to say about it: "Ivy is probably about Emily Dickinson and her long-time lover Sue. They fell in love when they were young women and then Sue married Emily's brother (some believe she did this so that she could remain close to Emily and others wouldn't be suspicious of their love), and the two had a life long relationship documented by Emily's poems and letters to Sue. Taylor released Evermore on Emily Dickinson's birthday, and in two of Emily's letters to Sue, she ends them by writing "for evermore!"
Her lyrics are at it's best on Folklore and Evermore. It's amazing. She always was a good storyteller but I have the feeling after taking the risk not mainly singing about her life with Folklore she has no more limitations. After the success of Folklore she seems to have the confidence to write about whatever she wants. She is free. There is a difference between Folklore and Evermore. I personally get so lost in Evermore. There are so many meanings and interpretations. I wonder how far she'll get with her next albums. It's great to see you giving her so much credit for her writing skills. :)
This song is pretty particular to me because it has cute, dreamy fairytale chill tune but lyrically speaking it’s pretty dark especially the fire part 😂
I absolutely love your reactions! I love how you actually pay attention to the lyrics and also the fact that you don't cut any parts of the song. 🥺❤️❤️
That's sort of how I felt about "no body, no crime." I'm a pacifist lol, so the murder story was against my morals at first, but the song is so catchy and amazing and well written that I have to love it anyway. Taylor does that to me. It's also funny because the 'reputation' album is all about darkness, but it's one of my favorite albums ever.
My fave on the album! I feel like the widow who goes to the stone (but she doesnt) is Firestarter’s widow after the husband kills him. That verse doesnt sound like anything else in the song. It really stands out. I play this song repeatedly all day. It’s a JAM! and the ah-ah-ah-ah vocals when shes starts singing about “he’s gonna burn this house to the ground” is so intense! Really ups the ante. Thank you for letting us listen with you!
I've been waiting for this song!!! Best in the album!! And I'm pretty sure this is about 2 women falling inlove with each other while one is already committed to someone. Makes me think that this happened during the medieval period or the 1800s where this kind of love is forbidden and the 2 just wanna run away to a forgotten land which reminds me of the cottage from shrek.
I come home from work and the first thing I do is check to see if you have the next song from Evermore up! So far we’ve had the same favorites. Very interested to see your Cowboy Like Me reaction. It’s about two con artists who fall in love.
Here's what I found about the word IVY: Ivy symbolizes fidelity. This is extremly ironic because, this song is about infidelity. Ivy is an evergreen plant so it also symbolizes eternal life. Like their love is eternal. Common ivy is resistant to (not only) fire - "He's gonna burn this house to the ground" Ivy is also a weed, so it's invasive and it can destroy a house. It's literally a homewrecker. Overall ivy can be a good an a bad thing, here it can both protect you as well as destroy you. They both are most likley dead. "How's one to know? I'd meet you where the spirit meets the bones" - she was killed by her husband, it starts in a graveyard, and she sees the old widow visting her dead husband "and the old widow goes to the stone, but i don't i just sit here and wait" because she's already in a grave, she can't move. "Spring breaks loose, but so does fear, He's gonna burn this house to the ground" and later "So yeah, it's a fire, It's a goddamn blaze in the dark" meaning the husband killed her. And the last one "my house of stone, your ivy grows". Also "the palm of your freezing hand" like the way a dead body would be, he's dead as well, or you can take it like he's the death of her. I also kinda take it like his body wasn't burried, like he's in a nature and so that's why ivy grows over her tombstone. "I'd live a die from moments that we stole, on begged and borrowed time" - no matter what, she would still stayed with him "Or dare to sit and watch what WE became" - again saying that they both will die "It's a goddamn fight of my life and you started it" - he made her question everyting about her life Addictonally, i think we all know the "back in a day we were fixing relationsips" well that's a lie, back in a day a) people didn't had the money to have a divorce b) people were forced into a marriage. And so not everyone was getting married because of love or were staying together because of love.
this song has so many layers lyrically that i still cant figure out what exactly this song means. on the surface it sounds like a song in the pov of a wife who's cheating on her husband but the more you listen to it, im pretty sure someone's dead and i can't figure out who. is it the husband? is it the wife? is this song about ghosts falling in love?? idk 😩

This is probably my favorite song on the album

One of her best songs. Every time I listen to it I hear different layers of guitar or background vocals. Beautiful.

@@antony1186 pretty sure it’s more of an ellipses than a period, but please don’t rain on my interpretation to validate yours.

is it not about the novel/movie Rebecca?
@@ohef17 😂😂😂 hoping you'll react to her older albums after evermore tho... wish you'll do track by track as well. ❤❤ love u
This is not about two women at all. 💀
Lyndsay - she said in her interview with Zane Lowe that she was reading Rebecca while she wrote evermore, I think tolerate it is also about that book
You look like Jack Antonoff 😍
I've been waiting for this!!
