Thanks for the chuckle with your your "count the cylinders" to determine the number of quarts of oil needed theory. I hope you have figured out the two are not related...at all. While the oil filter cartridge might not be as convenient, it is less waste going into landfills consistent with this hybrid's "greenness." They can also be incinerated, metal canister filters can't. Many states designate used oil filters as hazardous waste..it is easier to comply with the disposal regulations with cartridge filters. Cartridge filters will only become more and more common. Oil turning dark in color doesn't mean in and of itself the oil needs to be changed or there is an issue with the engine. Urban legend. More related to heat cycles or soot. Handy tip: Your oil will drain much faster if you remove the oil filler cap AFTER you remove the drain plug. Finally, and you know this....get the torque spec for your drain plug and consider torquing to that spec. I know many shops don't, but there is a correct way to do things. I got my ct200h since 2014 and I knows how to do maintenance my car but I'm still enjoy your video which is very nice and clean even though I'm an aircraft mechanic. Greetings from Washington state
So glad I found this video and I’m now going to search your channel for more videos on the ct200h! As someone who was raised with Hondas, Acuras, and Fords, plus one Jeep, I’ve worked on my own vehicles since I was about 19 and was surprised at the difference when I bought my Lexus. I’ve been very annoyed at paying dealership maintenance costs and really wanted to find a good online tutorial so I could start to do my own work again. I may still say to hell with it and trade it in for something I can work on with less aggravation! Thank you for making this video and keeping it available!
Just done my oil change. My filter tool to unscrew the filter was different from the one in the video and was poor. Unscrewed it ok but ended up sticking to the filter casing. I left it there. I don't have a fleet of Lexuses so it's not like I'll need the tool for anything else. Win some, lose some.
EXCELLENT instructive video. I've changed my own oil hundreds of times...but still enjoyed this video! Keep up the great work!! Your videography is SUPERB! Thank you.
Good video, just one thing you forgot to lubricate the sealing O ring on the filter cap, usually just a smear of motor oil to prevent it from twisting out of the groove when you tighten the cap, but I am sure this helped a lot of people.
I've had plenty of Fords and never had black oil, just sold a vw with direct injection, oil was always black, we now have a 2018 fsport CT200 , best car we have ever owned

You’ll find the same filters on the 2012-2016 Camrys. Those super seal for some reason. And I’ve actually snapped wrenches trying to get it off. It is not a fact that only Lexus has a panel under the engine, many, many cars have this. Additionally, just about every car I've has required a special wrench for the oil filter. You keep on saying it is complicated, there is nothing unique about the Lexus, after all it is a Toyota powertrain!! You need to get yourself a little more thorough education about car makes. All the other Utube presenters don't make the absurd comments like you do.
why did you pay $25 for that oil filter tool? I actually like the fact that in the CT200h, you don't throw out the entire metal housing, along with the actual oil filter. Environmentally, that makes sense, and plus the filter itself is cheaper than replacing the entire metal housing.

Is It The Same Process For The Hybrid!? I Like FORD! "Line"" Haha 👍🏼
Not sure why you're complaining about the plastic cover and the fact the filter is in a filament... aren't most newer cars like this? I get the headache of the special tool... but it's a one-time buy for under $20.
The short answer is “no”, not all newer cars have this type of oil filter. Thanks for watching!
Oh well, thanks for the slight clarification. I wasn't trying to troll... was just genuinely curious and thought otherwise. Thanks for the video though! Just got one of these and plan on doing the oil changes myself... so this helped a lot!
No worries, dude. Congrats on your purchase!! It’s a great car. We have 47,000 trouble free miles. I’ll be changing out the front brake pads soon and plan on doing a video. Thanks again for watching.
Dude. Stop. Go troll someone else.
why did you pay $25 for that oil filter tool? I actually like the fact that in the CT200h, you don't throw out the entire metal housing, along with the actual oil filter. Environmentally, that makes sense, and plus the filter itself is cheaper than replacing the entire metal housing.
Because he wanted the get best...
Thanks so much for doing, this video as I now know how easy it is I doing it myself and save money on next service.. Well done...
