The real threat of proxy war between the US and China in the Philippines will have a dire consequences to the Philippines. It will be worst than WW2 with the possibility of nukes being use.

Ritter's rhetoric is going to get a lot of Filipinos killed because he would rather you surrender your sovereignty to China than actually fight back and possibly give China a reason for pause. As far as Dutarte he was a fence sitter trying to play on both sides of the fence he was hungry for Chinese money but kept US protection in his back pocket. He didn't strengthen the Philippines he weaken them he allowed China to annex Philippine soil without lifting a finger to stop them and now with their artificial islands they can control most of the SCS with their military. Making it that much harder for the US and your Asian neighbors to defend the Philippines from China. Dutarte was a coward who gave China what ever they wanted including Philippine soil for their artificial islands.

Really, When you threw them out who came back to protect you? The US could easily have left you to your fate but they didn't did they?
