    Hi Becky! love your videos. I use masking tape for tumblers but I haven't tried sublimating a mug yet. For my tumblers I was still getting ghosting with shrink wrap and the masking tape, even though it takes a little more time, gave me great looking seams for tumblers. There is a little bit of sticky residue from the masking tape on the bottom and on the inside rim so I use a little bit of goo gone and dawn soap and it comes right off. Good tip about the butcher paper for the mugs! 400 degree for 15 minutes seems so long when I do tumblers for 350/5mins!

    Silicone locking mug wraps aren't very expensive and will last a life time if taken care of. The little they do cost will save you lots of time in the long run. After all, time is money if you are doing these to sell. Another important thing here: Once you sublimate in any cooking device, it can no longer be used for food!

    I tried a mug in a toaster oven , set on convection, at 400 degrees for 14 minutes. The result was a partial image,. Do you know if that is due to it not having the shrink wrap tight enough, maybe? Or maybe not hot enough, or needs to bake longer?? Any ideas 💡?

It doesn’t do it when I do a full wrap. How can I keep this from happening when I do one pictures on each side of the mug. Or one picture on one side and words on the other side? I am getting tired of wasting mugs. Also, it only leaves the yellow line on one side of the mug handle. HELP please!!!

    What is the difference between sublimation and infusible ink?
    Can you use sublimation svg images for infusible and vice versa?
    What is a sublimation printer and how is it different than an ink jet printer?

    • @DesignBundles
      @DesignBundles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Patty! So Sublimation and Infusible Ink are very similar in concept but very different in actual application. I'll link some videos down below if that'll help. Infusible Ink is basically preprinted sublimation patterns, so you will still have to cut the design with your cutting machine. With a sublimation printer, you can design and print whatever design you would like, no cutting involved. You cannot use sublimation images for Infusible Ink, you would use cut files.
      A sublimation printer and inkjet printer are actually fairly similar, the difference is in the ink itself. Hope this helps! ---Becky

    Him I love your videos, you're always straight to the point. I have a quick question, how long it takes (approximately, I know depend on lot of stuff), but on average how long it takes to air dry sublimation ink after printing so you're able to used it on a mug? Last knight I tried sublimating on a mug, printed out sublimation ink on sublimation paper, bought from a dealer that do this job more then 15 years, everything is in place, I air dry the ink for more then hour, and still got smudged mug, so frustrated... What's wrong? Thank you

    • @DesignBundles
      @DesignBundles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tomislav! I think if you allowed the print to dry for over an hour, it sounds like you are getting ghosting of some kind during the pressing process. If the design moves slightly or if the wrap isn't tight enough. I would try to use an adhesive spray if you aren't already and see if that helps. Hope this helps! ---Becky

    • @HalfAssHomestead
      @HalfAssHomestead 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I take my designs right off the printer, trim them, and begin applying immediately. You do not have to let it air dry. In fact, that time sitting there may be introducing a high moisture content to the print that will cause the graphics to smudge. It could also be that you are cooking them at a higher temperature than the device is telling you. Not all of them are really accurate. Use a touch-less laser thermometer and check your actual temperature.

    whats the difference between the convection oven and a mug press?

    • @DesignBundles
      @DesignBundles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A mug press is going to have clamps that fit specific sizes of mugs, so they are somewhat limited, but they also take less time. Convection ovens can be used to sublimate anything that you can put a wrap around, or rather anything that can fit inside the oven, which makes it more versatile, but it typically takes longer for mugs (15 minutes vs 5 minutes). Great question! Yes, the butcher paper is only to catch the stray ink. You can use parchment paper, copy paper, anything along those lines will work. Hope this helps! ---Becky

      Absolutely. I use teflon paper and use the same piece around 100 times before it gets to be time to replace it with a new piece. I also only use the silicone locking mug wraps to hold the design to the mug.

      @@DesignBundles Word of advice on using copy paper. It has a very low flash point. Though silicone mug wraps are made to take a lot of heat, they will fail when hit with any direct flame. Trust me I know.....lol

    Seems overkill to me. I use heat tape only and no backing paper. I have used painters tape. My prints are tight enough without masking tape. I refuse to use shrink wrap, never needed it.

      Yes, Becky called it butcher paper a little bit later :) I had to go back and double check!

    I’ve got a convection oven coming tomorrow 🙏 how long do I need to cook my mugs for with shrink wrap ? Keep up the good work I love watching your videos, 😘

      Awesome Carol and thanks for your kind words! I would check with the manufacturer or distributor, they usually have the best advice for their products (each one can tend to be a little different). I would say 12-15 minutes is a safe bet though, then you'll start to increase if you do more than one at a time. Hope this helps and can't wait to hear what you think! ---Becky

      Thanks for the reply Becky, I will check with the manufacturer, but do you think it makes a difference if your using masking tape or shrink wrap Because of the difference in thickness ? xx

      @@clifton1960 I use the silicone locking mug wraps, and my optimum time is 12 minutes. Since heat rises, flip the mug upside down when placing it in the oven.
