  • 🔴What is compost? What are the dos and don'ts for making homemade compost at home?
Decomposing or composting is the act of rotting and decomposing plant, animal, or urban waste, as well as sewage sludge, which is done under special conditions and various methods. Composting is a natural process of recycling organic materials such as leaves and food waste into a valuable fertilizer that can be used in the soil. and enrich the plants. Everything that grows eventually decays. Composting simply speeds up this process by providing an ideal environment for bacteria, fungi, and other decomposers (such as worms, insects, etc.) to do their work. The resulting decomposed material often resembles fertile garden soil. It is called compost. Compost, which farmers refer to as black gold, is rich in nutrients and can be used for gardening and agriculture. A good compost can provide more micro-nutrients and macro-nutrients to the plant or tree.

🌱 How to make homemade compost from kitchen waste?
You can easily make compost with vegetable scraps, eggshells, vegetable and fruit peels, tree leaves, tea and coffee grounds, and even wood, newspapers, and cardboard that does not contain dyes or chemicals.
🔴 Do you know that the organic materials that I explained above attract all kinds of insects and cockroaches when they are added to your trash can or your dishwasher basket, and worse than that, when organic materials are collected together with municipal waste, they are placed in an anaerobic state for decomposition, which It causes the emission of methane greenhouse gas, which in composting, because oxygen supply is done well, the emission of this gas is less and we help our own health and that of other people.
So don't forget that using organic materials and making compost is beneficial to you from every point of view.
🌱 We need four things to cook a hot compost:
Nitrogen, carbon, water and oxygen supply (air circulation)
🔴 What things should we add or not add to compost?
Add yard and garden scraps and other organic matter to the compost pile, including finely chopped or shredded leaves, grass clippings, straw and hay, sawdust, and tree and shrub prunings.
Build compost piles with layers about 15 to 20 cm thick of plant material with a 2-3 cm layer of soil or pre-made compost in between.
Add a combination of green and brown vegetable ingredients. The green color provides nitrogen to the compost and the brown color adds carbon. Both are essential for microbes that break down organic matter.
🌱 Chop or shred large items such as branches and stems, newspaper, etc. before adding to the compost pile. Smaller particles break down faster.
Add food scraps from produce items such as apple cores, banana and orange peels, melon rinds, etc. You can also add coffee grounds and eggshells to your compost pile.
🌱 Sometimes turn the compost heap or turn it in another bucket to mix. This aerates the compost for faster decomposition.
🌱 If it is not raining or you are composting butter on the terrace or roof of the house, add water occasionally so that the mass is moist, but not wet.
If the plant material in a compost pile is turned regularly, it will take two to four months to decompose. Otherwise, it may take six months or more.
Use compost as a soil conditioner in your garden to improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of your soil.
Do not make the compost pile too big or too small. The best backyard compost pile is between 90 x 90 x 90 cm to 150 x 150 x 150 cm. Do not add meat waste, bones, fat, whole eggs or dairy products to the compost pile as they decompose slowly, causing odors. and can attract rodents. Do not add pet waste to the compost pile. Do not add diseased plant material or weeds that have eggs. Disease organisms and weed seeds will not be killed if the pile temperature does not reach 65 to 70 degrees F. Compost is not a substitute for fertilizer in your garden, but rather a supplement. The release of nutrients from compost is often too slow to provide all the nutrients necessary for plant growth.
    🌱 Don'ts of compost:
Cloth, plastic, charcoal that you cooked on, all kinds of fats, some tea bags that contain harmful chemicals, fatty bones of animals and fish, walnut shells, all kinds of dairy products, pet and human feces, infested plants or trees. , weeds with seeds, wood with chemicals or adhesives.
🌱Try to adjust the humidity of the compost between 40 and 60 degrees.
