We hang our water by a wire 6 to 8 inches off the ground. Chickens love grass so don’t put anything out side in the run. Calcium is a must to keep the egg shell harder. Solar power the coop for light at night, it helps keep predators away. Wire on the perimeter like chicken wire place it one foot around the coop to prevent predators from digging under the coop. They love left overs from the dining room table.
Your awkwardness is super cute. For the chickens, you'll probably want to put a barrier such as hardware cloth around the perimeter of the coop & run to keep digging critters out. Edited to add: I would just use straw as the bedding, some people & animals can have a reaction to pine shavings.
The best electric netting is called Pos-Neg by Kencove. I use it to contain hogs, goats and chickens. We do clip our chickens wings. God bless y’all with your returning to the land Gregory
You can buy an automatic door for the chicken coup that you can set it when it opens and closes. It will save your chickens as they will learn to be in at dark. I have also seen some that you can use solar power to run.
Just a heads up to keep in mind when putting up the fence around the coop..... Gators can climb fences here in Florida!! So you might want to a board to the top of the fence so it can't do over it!
10:51 You can use painting trays from Home Depot on the nesting boxes so the slope of the tray will send the eggs back to where the paint usually goes. You just need to slant the tray. If you get the reusable ones you can spray they down with water when it comes time to cleaning them 👌🏻
Raise your chicken water bucket up higher, maybe 5”’or so up off the ground. If not, the water spout will get dirty or fill up with wood shavings real quick when the chickens kick the wood shavings around. Find some wood blocks (again, about 5” or so high) and set the water bucket on top of the wood blocks 👍. Next thing I’d be concern about is living in that area, Everglades, plenty of snakes. Having chickens will attract snakes. So you might lose some eggs because snakes eat chicken eggs, as well as chickens themselves. Also BE CAREFUL when reaching your hands into the nest boxes collecting eggs. Might be a snake coiled in there underneath all the straw. As well as be careful in the storage room (where you keep extra feed/straw/wood shavings) because snakes like to hide in those areas as well. Maybe for snake deterrent, get some Guinea fowls. Heard they’re pretty aggressive and can/will kill snakes, again, from what I’ve heard 🤷♂️. Beautiful “Chicken Taj Mahal” 👍💯👌 !!!
Get trays that fit inside box if u want a slant and help cleaning boxs. Put cloves garlic and some apple cider vinegar in there water helps with mites and intestine problems. Installing a moveable electric fence and consider flock dogs like marimos
You might want what they call an apron that goes around the exterior of the coop so nothing will dig under and kill the chickens. Awesome start to the farm! we named out chickens hennifer Lopez, Lindsey lohen. Roosters help protect the hens too. Make sure the ventilation up top has small holes so snaked can't get in.
Your chicken coop is perfect you don't need to change anything, put I metal wire under ground around the coop so the predators can't dig up the ground too get in the run
Hemp mulch is good to spread over the floor and then over the poo every other day or so. The hemp absorbs the smells better etc. once it gets about 4 “ deep transfer it to your compost pile.
Use a solar hotwire if you want to give them some free ranging time replace chicken wire with garden cloth its harder for a predator to break i miss my chickens i loved having them
Second episode and I’m here. Forgive me I don’t know you guys at all, I don’t do all the typical social media sites, have you guys got big followings before this? My man looks about 6ft6, like some American footballer😂
Im english so cant relate to the threats of florida, but for the slant in the laying boxes its not really important, we have rare breed chickens kept separate from each other in different pens, some slanted laying boxes some not and rarely see eggs being destroyed in either, buff orpingtons are super friendly and a good egg layer keep them but not the commits. Would recomend either a kubota, mahindra or summit tractors , i know people have suggested looking at piney grove buti would also recomend country view acres for a great homsteading youtube channel. Finally if you didnt know when using hay alot maybe get some dust masks because the dust when working with hay / straw can lead to a respiratory problem called farmers lung which isnt fun, STAY SAFE. lovely property, good luck
CHICKENS REALLY HAVE NO REASON TO BE KEPT IN A COOP UNLESS YOU DONT LET THEM OUT. YOU WILL USE HALF THE FEED AS WELL. THEY KNOW WHERE HOME IS, AND WILL EVEN RETURN TO LAY EGGS AND GO BACK OUT.
Need to get the water bucket up off floor at list 6”

Use your chicken 'poo' to fertilize your garden. : ) Cutie pie baby girl !

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in the LORD year 2025! All the best, good luck,.. Rudi.
Nice looking chicken coop
If the floor wood, id suggest you put down vinyl which won't absorb the odor. Great video guys ❤❤...

Chickens will eat almost any type of fruit or vegetable, pumpkin and blueberry are favorites they might even eat the fire ants.
Kabota tractors, or the new Bobcat tractors, make excellent small farm tractors. Lots of easy attach implements

Check out Piney Grove Homestead. He’s got a lot of good tractor info. They’re in northern Florida.
Feed them nutrina laying pellets or mash, and nutrina scratch feed
I will put gutters so you can collect rain water for the chickens
You probably should get electric poultry net for Xtra security from predators and get a rooster for them
I’m from Pa born and raised! What made you guys decide to jump over to Florida! Also subbed to you guys!

John Deere or Kubota tractors are both good brands. 70 horse would be perfect.
Shuttle shift caboto tractor I think you guys should check full size and one figure wrench

GONNA NEED DOGS, SNAKES LOVE EGGS, ALWAYS THINK THERE IS ONE THERE BEFORE REACHING IN
FLOCK DEFENDING BREEDS WILL URINATE ALL AROUND, WHICH WILL HELP WITH SNAKES.
AND OTHER RODENTS,
DEF GET A DOG
I WOULD SAY START THAT NOW FOR WHEN THE KIDDO IS OLD ENOUGH TO BE RUNNING AROUND, THE DOG WILL BE OF AGE AND KNOW THE LAY OF THE LAND.
CHICKENS REALLY HAVE NO REASON TO BE KEPT IN A COOP UNLESS YOU DONT LET THEM OUT. YOU WILL USE HALF THE FEED AS WELL. THEY KNOW WHERE HOME IS, AND WILL EVEN RETURN TO LAY EGGS AND GO BACK OUT.
YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO HAVE A PLAN TO CATCH THEM,
My hens would just squat whenever I stood above them as they would with a breeding rooster.
