According to NYC tenant’s rights: If you signed a real lease, the owner of the penthouse CANNOT evict you from the residence for at least 14 days. There’s also an entire court proceeding that needs to take place before you can be lawfully removed. Any other action taken by this landlord would be in breach of the renter’s agreement, if you signed a traditional lease, meaning you would be entitled to any and all funds posted to the landlord’s bank account.
I doubt a landlord that owns a property of that value would not go with the proper legal proceedings, since AMP are fully capable to sue. I believe the AMP guys just booked the penthouse for a few days just for a publicity stunt, and they're tricking their audience, making us believe that they got kicked out where in fact they were never going to rent long term at all. But could just be my cynicism.

There are housing laws that prevent this kind of thing. If they are meeting the rental obligations, not causing damage to the property beyond repair, or any other major lease violation then they cannot be evicted. It sounds like the owner of the unit got an offer he couldn't refuse and decided to kick them out now as the buyer probably did not want to wait 3 months. Also, he absolutely cannot just enter the property unannounced as there are privacy laws against that and depending on what he walks into he could be committing a felony. The AMP team should stop talking about this situation on stream and have a housing lawyer file an injunction and force the owner into court (under oath) to explain why he is taking this action and not providing them a reason why.
The reason they should stop talking about it on stream is because anything they say can be entered into evidence against them (like taking a laxative and blowing the place up). Some judges know when people are kidding around and will give them the benefit of the doubt, but not all unfortunately.
