Why Any ‘Clean’ Person Won’t Succeed As President Of Nigeria - Gen. Ishola (Rtd) | Inside Sources

  • A retired military officer, General Ishola Williams, says the immunity clause in the 1999 Constitution encourages corrupt acts by politicians because the law shields them from arrest and prosecution for fraudulent offences whilst in office.
He was a guest on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a socio-political programme aired on Channels Television on Friday.
The former Head of Transparency International in Nigeria said the 1999 Constitution is corruption-prone because it provides immunity for crooks once they assume elective offices and “immunity gives room for impunity”.
“That constitution is corruption-prone,” he said. “Why is it corruption-prone? Immunity is equivalent to impunity. So, any constitution that has immunity creates an institution for impunity because you bring a crook into government and say: ‘Oh, this crook because he has come into government, he is now a saint, so anything he does, leave him until he leaves’.

A good role model General Ishola Williams. My father told me a story about this man while in service. He tagged him and General Nasco as two military men with no blemish. He stated that every position this man occupied in the army, everyone declined to work with him because he saved money for the Army and bring you to account if you dare engage in any corrupt services. I really respect him to be honest

Gen. Ishola Williams thank you for this educative lecture. This is one of the most thought provoking and functional discussions i have listened to about Nationhood in recent time. The General did not only identify the problems but proffer solutions in contrary to most analysts who only dwell in complaining and abusing non performing government. I think we still need this type of man as true adviser.

Bigotry is what the politician use to dismantle the followers' responsibility and obligations. When people are divided with whatever means, they cannot fight for their right, and in most cases forget their responsibilities.

Laolu, you are doing great in analytic reporting. It’s great to see you regularly, my brother. Nigeria needs to see deeper into the ultimate motives behind our leaders’ decisions. Gen Ishola Williams is an accurate experiential and well grounded analyst man.
He said here, ‘we create agency in order to offer employment not to offer services. The constitution is left alone, by all military and the civilian leaders because of the greed and the selfish benefits it confers on them.’This is a very accurate picture of the Nigerian public service. He is a dogged defender of justice and the helpless. I let him in Disarmament and International Peace and security while at the UN 2007-2011.

I have been following the General(an examplary leader) for a very long time and i undertstand perfectly what he's saying...the culture of impunity by those that have held Nigeria hostage,of which the general belonged,is what has led us to where we are.Awolowo was denied leadership and nothing happened. For a strategist, money politics was the only way to get power, as designed by the cartel that have captured Nigeria for years.I am now looking forward to what the present Govt does with power, that it has.Already, they are failing becuase i believe,if Awolowo was to be our leader, with this opportunity,he would do the best possible and not be mindful of playing politics to win second term.A mark on the sands of time would have been more of his legacy and even that, seen by the people, will most likely reward you with the 2nd term.Damning the consequences of satisfying all the various political and sundry interest group, would be the paramount thing to do.When you have power, you use it well.

Nice presentation laolu, and the general is a great example of what and how we should approach national issues , the general most definitely need support to keep his ngo running , we have continue to get aeeved diatraction and deviations by this goverment, the govt drifted away completely which in my opinion is a waste of time and resources , yet , with the unveiling of a new canvass of Pbat, it is clear that ,the president and the narional assembly are diaconnected from our reality as apeople and preaodency sorrounded by sychophants , right now , hu ger and famine is facing us and we still keep wasting money on uselss projects , who knows how much the canvass costs and as small as it could be , it is enough to pay medical bills of poor citizens with twrminal ailments, we are simply nit ready yet and the present crop of youth are even worse than our parents cos they had it even better during their time .

General, most people don't understand or are ignorant of their obligations because the constitution are written in languages above them. We need to restructure on a regional basis. For example, India adopts mother tongues, and today, they are technically sound. Without our mother tongues in all our endeavours, we will remain mere spectators in the comity of Nations. Look across Europe and Asia, mother tongue was the first casualty when the invaders arrived. Must we continue in fear to obey the dictates of some military commands ?? Who authorised them to dictate to us. We must liberate ourselves democratically

Everything work by design. Outcome of leadership and followership as we have it in Nigeria today strictly follow the design of her politics. Since the time of President Jonathan, we have suggested that technology has made it possible for millions of people to discuss at the same time so we no longer need representatives like senators/reps. If we must make use of them we must decide what their pay is at the point of their election which must exclude party politics.

Every Nigeians are looking for a political mesiah.. where none are willing to be a desciples... but rather Judas.... talk and talk and talk.. no single idea presented... Every Nigeian are raised to be selfish thats why we cannot find an individual that we can call true stateman.. because those who are in power today are there to enrich themself, and while at it, they are also training yougths that will follow their footsteps... I love my country Nigeria, but things will never change untill we trully have not one but at least a million political mesiah to make that change...
