I ordered my heater from middle of england and it was deliverd to aberdeen in 26 hrs, i was expecting at least 3 or 4 days. I am off to add pipe work in the next few days to direct heat to my feet when i am working at the lathe or mill after seeing how you directed the air about your workshop. I also have an old 125 race kart silencer to try fitting as a way of trying to quieten the inlet noise. Thanks for the update on your heater and the silencer idea.
Interesting test, Steve. We've recently installed an attenuator to the noisiest line of our waste ducting system at work, with some success. Your silencer looks very similar to this, but on a much smaller scale, so I'm not surprised that it works. Also, I used some stainless builders band (Screwfix) to make some neat hangers for the rigid bathroom extraction ducting in my loft. 😉
Hi Chris. Yes the bracketry was just to conduct the experiment. I will be making something better soon. I know I was using the noise meter etc, but the difference is quite amazing. Last night I went in the garage (Christmas eve) & put the heater on full. I turned the dab radio on with the volume the same as usual. I could hear the radio perfectly without having to increase the volume at all. Thanks for your comments. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 I would be the same in my garage...the radio is the first thing that gets turned on! 😁 I also suffer from tinnitus, and so am acutely aware of nuisance noise and minimising it. 👍
@chrisslater3174 I also suffer from tinnitus due to chemotherapy some years ago. Partners always shouting ovens finished are you deaf. Haha. Take care . Steve.
great, well fathomed out Steve👍👍🎅🎅😉😉 my problem is i would have move my heater as i have it in a tight space under my workbench with no access to put a large silencer, so that would have to be a summer re-think for me. (Also i don't have a pipe on my intake its straight facing close to a wall) I am going to compare my heater decibels to your readings of 70 db on high & 53 db on low at 1 metre from the heater ( thats before you fitted the silencer ) as time permits me, i will let you know when ive checked merry xmas to you & family atb Kev
