Thankyou for information about Tiger Bay. My mother was born in South Wales coal mining area 1913. Very poor coal miner family, virtually starving , living on nothing. Very sad stories she told me. But she taught her children about motherly love, and from love we have our strength.

It shows that we have long been living together in peace. When we are taught the same and given the same chances. Tiger Bay was an example of what human unity should be.

Watching Neil Sinclair, I wish I'd taken advantage of one of his guided tours when he was alive. In his many television appearances, he was always engaging, knowledgeable and clear in his understanding of the area. Sadly missed but, thanks to these videos, he is preserved for posterity.

Started my apprenticeship in the docks and remember mud hopping to the boats to go sailing before the barrage was built.
Liked the guy doing the tour. As the saying goes. You can take the boy out of Cardiff but you can't take Cardiff out of the boy 🤣🤣🤣

Even before WW2, Tiger Bay was very multi-ethnic.

    Hello Andrew.
What IS the reason it was known as Tiger Bay

maxim Edwards. .there are a couple of theories on how tiger bay got its name but the one that rings true is there used to be a constable who's patrol was tigers bay and he was affectionately known as tiger hence the name

I'm sorry, I am with Dame Shirley Bassey when I say that Cardiff Bay will always be Tiger Bay to me. It was known as Tiger Bay for a reason, and that is denying its past one would suggest?
