*Review:* - A battle victorious Maharaj (Played by Jairaj) roams around the town to witness the victory celeberations, and is at the home of a poor farmer who has invited a Pandit to figure out the auspicious muhurat, so the farmer’s wife can deliver her first newborn. The wife delivers a son and the Pandit reads the Kundli, and after confirming that the child has a ‘Shunk and Chakra” tattooed on his right arm, foretells an astonishing bhavishyavaanee. The Pandit predicts the farmer’s son, is the ‘Roop’ of Bhagavan Vishnu, and being born in this country will eventually become the King. The Maharaj hears all this and is not pleased. The Pandit is immediately summoned at the Palace, and questioned about the bhavishyavaanee. However, the Pandit remains adamant. Angered by his blunt and brusque talk, the Maharaj confines the Pandit to the dungeons. The vengeful Maharaj then orders his MahaMantri to destroy the child. The child is thrown off a cliff but survives, and as fate would have it, a predetermined course of events, often held to be an irresistible power, destiny will determine the son’s future (Played by Sanjeev Kumar as Suraj).
The film plot then just plods along like a B movie, what with the new Maharani and Maan Singh (Played by Sujeet Kumar), conspire to get rid of Chandravati a/k/a Chanda (Played by Meeta), the 1st daughter of the King’s late wife, thereby depriving Chanda to the throne. Maan Singh has designs on the new Maharani’s daughter Taramati (Played by Laxmi Chhaya), and also accession to the throne for himself. However, their plans went awry as the kidnapping is foiled by Suraj. Both Suraj and Chanda fall in love with each other. Later, by chance the Mahamantri sees the tattoo on Suraj’s arm and discovers he was adopted 20 years ago. He immediately reports the findings to Maharaj, who orders Suraj to be hanged. Suraj is captured but he excapes, and thereafter the film takes an extraordinary turn into a super natural world of fantasy. A magical Reptilia Animalia (snake kingdom) in which snakes perform an elaborate choreography, playing all kinds of musical instruments. The snake-dom is headed by a buxom snake princess (Played by Bindu). She has magical powers and she too falls in love with Suraj. Later, the Maharani with the aid of Maan Singh engineers a coup d'état, and the Maharaja is jailed in the dungeon. It is to be seen whether Suraj, with the aid of the magical powers of the snake princess, will be able to thwart the coup, and restore the legitimacy of the throne.
The film tempo is medium but it picks up pace halfway. The performances by all characters are good and their roles well balanced. Sanjeev, Sujeet and Jairaj excel in their roles. Meeta seemed a bit reticent. Laxmi Chhaya came across as being more lively and charming. Background music is above average with some hit songs. The fight scenes are intense and the film is pretty enjoyable. Children with highly imaginative minds will like this film very much.
