Myanmar civilian leader vows to back 'revolution' against military junta | DW News

  • The leader of a group of civilian politicians ousted from Myanmar's government has vowed to support a "revolution" against the military that seized power last month.
Speaking from hiding for the first time since the coup, Mahn Win Khaing Than said that this was "the darkest moment of the nation, and the moment that the dawn is close." More than 80 people have been killed in six weeks of protests against the junta.
Despite the rising death toll, demonstrations continue. This peaceful protest is held to honor those who have become known as the fallen heroes.
Makeshift barricades are rebuilt every day for protection. Protesters arm themselves with firecrackers and shields, persevering in their fight for democracy.
For the hundreds who attended the funeral of protester Win Hlaing, defiance is tainted by grief.
The three finger salute pays tribute to this fallen hero - and all the others, who sacrificed their lives for the pro-democracy movement.

"Look there, do you see the place where there is a single rose? They killed my precious son there. And then they dragged him away. My heart has broken into million pieces." These are the words of a mother who has lost her son who was only 17 years old. He has lost his life when he hasn't even lived it. Pray for us. We'd rather our whole country nuclear bombed rather than be sitting ducks just waiting to get killed.

@@nicolasbarrett4308 There's a very beautiful poem written by Martin Niemoller... It's called" First they came..." it's about WW2 and the behavior of the German citizens during WW2... You should look it up, it's very applicable to this situation...
The silence from the people of Myanmar was deafening when Rohingya's were being mass murdered....
Indeed Aung defended her country and pretended those atrocities never happened. she lied denied and defended the army, the same people who are killing you now.. So what does that say about her?
I also know, that many people of Myanmar are blaming China for this situation... Chinese citizens are being attacked... I've heard many people in myanmar calling to attack Chinese people.. If you think this is normal to use extreme violence against others, then don't expect sympathy from me, you're no different than your army...
This is not China's fault... Fools in Myanmar actually believe that China blocked a UN peace keeper intervention..
the UN never planned to sent peace keepers.. The only thing China blocked And Russia too, was a joint statement from the UN security council...
Now Chinese people are being attacked because of this lie... Even if China did block an Intervention, how is the the fault of Chinese citizens in Myanmar, why do they need to suffer????
You don;t care about others, you don't care about using violence against them, so why should other people care about you??
I condemn what the military is doing, but i have no sympathy for the people of Myanmar...
