  • Taking a ride on one of the more special Class 319s, 319012 - now sadly scrapped along with 319429. This unit was famous amongst many enthusiasts, for one it sported the original Network SouthEast Edward Pond murals. But also, it had the most growliest and loudest traction motors on any LNWR 319. I cannot say it was the loudest 319 in existence, as many Northern 319/3s have proved different (319364 I believe holds this record). However, working with it many a day at London Euston, there were times it would depart Platform 11 and being stood on the adjacent Platform 12, you could literally feel the resonance as the motors kicked in. Alas, I finally got a ride on one - 2K63 21:06 London Euston to Milton Keynes Central, riding her to Harrow & Wealdstone on the Down Slow. Usually the speed limit is 75mph, but this was definitely achieving close to 90mph at some points, so perhaps there are faster sections.
    I shall be trying to bash the last remaining LNWR 319s, they are, from what I hear, staying until September/October the latest, however this is subject to either be earlier or later depending on the situation with the Class 730s.
    If anyone has any idea of how long Northern's 319s have left, please let me know as I am planning to head to Liverpool next week to ride a few.
    Thank you for watching! :)

    This one always liked to sing, even back in the days of NSE ;). Shame this one got its wings but I would like to see at least one preserved. Maybe LSL trains could buy one for its fleet?

    Line Speed on the Slows goes up from 75mph to 90mph at around Harlesden Junction, to be precise (6 miles 03 Chains on the Down Slow and 6 miles 10 chains on the Up Slow). Around the Wembley Central section, the line speed drops back down to 75mph (between 8 miles 00 chains and 7 miles 60 chains on the Up Slow and 7 miles 79 chains and 7 miles 60 chains on the Down Slow). Around the Harrow & Wealdstone area line speed goes up to 100mph (9 miles 20 chains Down Slow and 11 miles 41 chains Up Slow).

    Sounds like a mix of Z 8800/20500 on 25 kV

    They said they had the train in service but did not bring it out because of the hot weather due to no AC

      That's weird, because they still use the 319s, even on the scorching days.

    Why aren’t they scrapped yet grubby old fleet

    • @KingsCrossThameslink
      @KingsCrossThameslink  ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the 730s are still on test and train crew have not been fully trained or signed off on them. 319s however are being reduced this month with 2x more being taken out of service. No idea what units though

      The 319s last day of operation should be on monday apparently..? But it depends when the 730s enter service (i assume in just less than 2 weeks maybe but idk)
