I carry on the story with mole’s first meeting with the water rat you can, if you wish, support and encourage me with coffee and cake here www.buymeacoffee.com/malcolmg...
It was 1988, Disney World, “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride”. Scared the daylights out of me so terribly that I wouldn’t read Wind in the Willows until 2023. A good laugh about it now, part of me knows I missed out, but what a sweet delight to discover it in adulthood! Thank you for reading to us. God bless you sir.
One aspect that shines through in this passage is Ratty’s love for boats simply as boats, regardless of what they might be for. There is a sheer goodness in their existence. What an antidote to the utilitarianism that infects every aspect of our society.
I am so glad that I found your channel. There is so much hate and vitriol on TH-cam these days, that to find a channel which is so devoid of criticism and cynicism is a joy. Thank you for entertaining us with your inexhaustible enthusiasm for literature and poetry. Long may your pipe smoke and may your tumbler never run dry of a wee dram.
I love this channel ! Malcolm has a beautiful gift that many are to full of fear to share. It's his voice I hear when I read my favorite selections and I think that's how you know someone has drank from the magic mead that Odin in his adventures stole so he could have the gift of poem and song😂,that's one my favorite childhood stories that was read to me, thank you Malcolm for your patience and courage
I think that it would be nice to have a weekly reading from your favorite adventure book. Reading a chapter a week through an entire book. I enjoy watching these videos while smoking my pipe and being outside.
So pleased to have discovered your channel, its a real delight to grab a few minutes to escape the chaos of a modern world and enjoy some wonderful storytelling, takes me right back to much simpler times
Sir, these last two videos have been wonderful. Thank you. I immediately bought a copy for my son and I after your last video. Thank you for introducing us to this lovely novel
What a joy! Just two days before you released your 1st reading of Wind in the Willows, I went searching or the BBC version of it and enjoyed rewatching a bit of that after years of not seeing it and decided I need to reread the book. Now you carry on with another inspiring reading. Thank you. What a joy.
Thank you for these readings from Wind in the Willows. I have to confess that - although I've read passages from it - I've never read the whole book. These reading have inspired me to correct that and I'm now enjoying it for the first time. At 72!! God bless!
Being from Deep South Georgia, I just wanna say how refreshing watching your videos truly are. I’d like to quote G.K Chesterton from his book, What I saw in America, “ Before there was any New England in the North, there was something very like Old England in the South. Relatively speaking, there is still.” I believe that as a southerner this is exactly why I feel the way I do. Hearing you reading from these books, smoking a pipe, having real intellectual conversations, and reading poems reminds me of the aristocrats of old that lived here not too long ago. I so enjoy these videos when they come out, and I have to say that I 100% agree with Chesterton, there’s more of England in the South than we tend to wanna admit. After saying that, I’ve now got to go out and find this book 🤣 for my never ending library.
This too is one of my favorite books I read in school as a child. Now I get to hear you read after a long day at work while I am fighting of a dreaded cold. Couldn’t get much better this evening. Thank you.
I've wiled away many hours Paddling rivers. Nothing in the world can reach you, in the middle of a river. Wind and the Willows is one of my all time favorites. It would suit me if you read the whole thing.
would you please please please consider reading us more from this Treasure?? perhaps coinciding with each new season. ? I know it would be an absolute pleasure to look forward to the coming months to hear your narration. Cheers to You and Bless your Ministry Malcom. Thank You!!!
I first read this at 18 on a trip to Ireland long ago, it was magical then and still is, thank you for your wonderful narration, the study is too well lit for my tastes 😁
Quite suspiciously, this story reminds me a lot of The Once and Future King by T.H. White. And in fact, there's even a wonderful little scene in the book of Arthur as a boy being turned into a mole by Merlin and spending the afternoon sitting in another mole's hovel and listening to said mole read a fable he had written himself. If you haven't read it, I would highly suggest it. The first half is a lot of fun and the latter half is as dramatic as any Game of Thrones episode could be.
It saddens me to think that I was never introduced to TWITW as a child. I believe my parents never knew of its existence ! So, THANK YOU, Malcolm for exposing this wonderful Tale to me, even if it's in my old age. Exciting to finally become aware of all the beautiful thoughts that exist in literature. I am now reading Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Dickens and Steinbeck. So much to take in with so little time left. Depressed how my childhood and formidable years had been wasted by the ignorance of those who raised me. My heart is bursting with THANKS to you, Malcolm. God Bless you, again and again.
I love this book, as it so often reaches right back into my childhood. I don't read the full book any more, just certain passages at different times of the year. The advent of spring always has me reaching for 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn', and the colder months, when we're all nestling inward and hunkering down in the comforts of home, always see me re-reading the chapters 'Dulce Domum' and 'Mr. Badger'. Such a treasury of words and sentiments!
Many thanks for making the feeling come alive in us, how the Mole must feel when taken into the Water Rat's boat, not knowing the journey's end, but delighted with it all. Wow! Lovely of you to do this.
Dropping in to see you in the library is such a pleasure. I wonder if you might let us visit you on board your boat for a reading, once the warmer weather arrives?
This wonderful channel has helped me discover the joy of pipe smoking and rekindled my fascination for the written word. Now I have ordered both The Hobbit and The Wind in the Willows to read to my children. Thank you Malcolm!
Hello Mr Guite, have you ever read The White Company by AC Doyle? It’s an almost entirely forgotten book today by a popular author. It has some great poetry. “What of the bow? The bow was made in England: Of true wood, of yew wood, The wood of English bows; So men who are free Love the old yew tree And the land where the yew tree grows.”
You have inspired me not only to take up the pipe but also to read to my son, he’s still a bit young but it’s never to early to try and spark his imagination. Thank you sir, from the United States
Malcolm, I am so happy that the youtube algorithm provided me with the opportunity to find your channel. It brings me a sense of peace and happiness in this chaotic world we live in today. I'll listen to your videos back after back in the morning during work. I love it. Thank you so much.
Brought to mind : "Longer boats are coming to win us... They're coming to win us..coming to win us.. Longer boats are coming to win us.. Hold on to the shore.. or.. they"ll be takin' the key from the door !".
Hello, Malcolm. What a fantastic addition this is to your channel. One of my favourite works. Your voice spoke to me like I was a boy once again; pure joy and excitement. Please continue with a few more chapters and I shall sure listen closely. God bless you, sir - cheers! *the raise of a Jameson class*

11:22 Thank you for your readings 📚 and all other interesting bits boating whisky increased after a day where everyone as done nothing but complain ect just to get in and watch and listen to you was great
This channel has brought me much joy in some of my recent hard times. Id love to shake this mans hand one day and enjoy a peterson pipe with him and a glass of one of those fine Islay scotches he also enjoys.
From the heartland of the US in the State of Nebraska here. Thank You so much for this channel. It is a gift to mankind.
Good day to you sir.
🇺🇸 🏴
I so heartily agree
From the TRUE Heartland of the US, Des Moines, Iowa.. thank you so much for this channel.
Watching you read, smoke pipes, browse books- listening to your wonderful voice, is a taste of Eden in a sometimes tedious world.

Malcolm, thank you for reading more of “Wind and the Willows” to us. What fun; and what an honor to be read to by you. You lifted my heart today.

I loved it! I ordered it, it's coming out on May 1st with the original illustrations. Thanks my friend!

A real gentlemen of scholar and convivial nature.
The sheer boat-i-ness of a boat is a magical expression.
Beautifully read with passion...might even get me back into reading, fabulous stuff
Really enjoy listening to you read my favorite stories while I fall asleep 😊
I've always thought Ratty's boat was a long wineglass wherry with brass fittings and mahogany seats and gunwales. 😊
I love this channel ! Malcolm has a beautiful gift that many are to full of fear to share. I first read this at 18 on a trip to Ireland long ago, it was magical then and still is, thank you for your wonderful narration, the study is too well lit for my tastes 😁
The Jacobites had a fondness for moles. I am Scottish ; so I thought I would mention it. " Here's to the man in the black velvet waistcoat".
I think that like many of the Disney films, the book actually speaks on many more levels to adults 👍🏼👏🏼❤️
I just found this channel and I’m so delighted! It’s like a treat that I never knew existed! I just subscribed!
Thank you for reading a lovely story Reverend.
The shear boatyness of a boat. Brilliant.
It's a true joy to listen to you sir. Wonderful.

You could read the entire book to us! What a delight! I have loved Wind in the Willows for many years and was a particular favorite of my mother's! 🙏💖
Many thanks for making the feeling come alive in us, how the Mole must feel when taken into the Water Rat's boat, not knowing the journey's end, but delighted with it all. Wow! Lovely of you to do this.

It was in Wind in the Willows that I got my first glimpse of what I can only call faery. Possibly my strongest connection with a book!
Thanks for continuing the story, could you make a video talking about bout your writing process?
