கேட்டதும் கண்களில் நீர் வடிந்தது. நான் அவருடைய கோயம்புத்தூர் ரசிகன் அந்த காலத்தில் .பச்சிராஐ செண்ட்ரல் ஷ்டுயோ அருகில் எங்கள் வீடு.
அற்புதமான விமர்சனம் . A m ராஜா வின் பலப்பல பாடல்களை கேட்டு உள்ளம் நெகிழ்ந்துள்ளேன். வாழ்க இவர் புகழ் .
இவர் இறந்த அன்று இவர் வந்த அதே ரயில் வண்டியில் என் தாயும் தந்தையும் பயணம் செய்தார்கள். என் தந்தை இந்த விபத்தை பற்றி அடிக்கடி கூறுவார். இந்த வீடியோவை பார்த்த பிறகுதான் நான் புரிந்து கொண்டேன்.
நான்கு 1982 ல் சென்னை தி.நகர் வால்மீகி தெருவில் நான் வேலை பார்த்த போது அதற்கு அடுத்த தெருவான சின்னையா தெருவில் தான் இந்த தேன் குரலோன் வசித்து வந்தார் ..
தன்னுடைய Land master காரை அவர் ஓட்டிச்செல்வதையும் .. திருமலை பிள்ளை தெருவும் பசுல்லா தேர்வும் சந்திக்கும் இடத்தில்.. அங்கு உள்ள கடையில் சாமான்கள் வாங்கும் போது பார்த்து வியந்தது உண்டு ...

A M Raja was God's gift to Tamil music. His compositions were superb and so was his voice. His wife, P G Kishnaveni or Jiiki was equally versatile.They are an irreplaceable couple. Raja died at at early age -- proof that the bests die when they are young.

His voice was the most apt for Gemini Ganesan. Yet he was replaced by P.B Srinivas for some inexplicable reasons later on .
Though the latter's voice was good. It was neither totally apt for Gemini Ganesan nor was it as mellifluous as A. M. Raja's.
The latter's voice would look like honey in taste while listening.
That is correct. Rajas voice suited Gemini in a perfect manner.

A.M. Rajah was a gifted singer with a sweet voice, which could express pathos quite naturally. His voice could suit all top stars, depending on the mood of the song. His range was limited, but he was quite expressive and effective within that range. The great MDs of those days could compose, taking into account the limitations of his voice. and so many of his became masterpieces. Many of his songs were based on original Hindi tunes- his voice had shades of Talat Mahmood and Mukesh. Later , his voice came to be identified with, and hence limited to, Gemini Ganesh .
I have heard that in later stages he became rather irresponsible or played tough and truant, and would not respond to MDs and come for rehearsals or recording. It was said that he was busy with his business interests. When Viswanathan Ramamurthy rose as MDs, Rajah was rather totally sidelined. He could not recover lost ground, and PBSreenivos replaced him.
He shone briefly as a Music Director for Sridhar. But it is said that he became intractable even to Sridhar who had to seek the intervention of MGR to make Rajah complete his assignment.
He had to make do with stage shows. It was while travelling for one such show that he met with an accident and died. A cruel end to a sweet voiced singer- such are the quirks of life. If you look at Rajah's photo, you will notice a sad expression in his eyes! But Rajah will live in the hearts of his fans. His songs have made his place among the stars!
