How special is that, you're able to show your dad around. He looked like he was in hog heaven with you and the kids. Also, breakfast looks amazing!

That was lovely! Beautiful Bury St Edmunds, probably the nicest little market town in the country.

Must be great to have your dad over and show him around
Wife and I go to Bury St Edmunds a lot as we live just up the road in Ipswich.
She goes for the shopping and I go for The Nutshell and a cosy pint.
Being Britain's smallest pub it has to be a cosy pint.
Look forward to seeing some more content from you.
    Thanks regards Lee and Christine

Glad your Dad enjoyed Bury. Bill's is good, but is part of a national chain. There are some excellent independant cafes including Bailey's 2 jyst around the corner in Whiting Street and Wrights on the corner with Looms Lane. The remains of the northern wall of the Abbey just visible at 2.45 from your favourite spot are known locally as the chicken and the teapot. The Abbey has just celebrated its millenium as it was founded by King Canute in 1020. The grid layout of the town which exists today was laid out by Abbot Baldwin who became Abbot in 1065 and mirrors those from Normandy which is where he came from. Bury was already under Norman control when William 'conquered' Britain in 1066. This is why there are no Norman defences in Bury; they were not needed.

aw ya dad seems like a lovely gentleman ,i hope he enjoyed his visit,it fascinates me how americans see our little island, what we see everyday and do take for granted must be a mind blowing thing for some, another thing i cant get my head around when americans keep mentioning the green grass lol ,i dont mean that in a bad way .

The "Green Grass" thing is literally true.
I've lived in Western Australia in the 70's & early 80's and yes it's beautiful but when you come back to the UK the "Green" hits you.
My Mum has lived in New Hampshire (USA) for probably 30 years and that was the very first thing she said she noticed upon visiting us back here in Blighty.
We really do live in a Green & Pleasant Land and we should protect that with all our might.
