  • I think you will like the music of Andrew Toovey. Andrew is a contemporary composer born in 1962. He lives and currently teaches at the Alperton Community School in London. Andrew is happy for his music to be uploaded with the score to TH-cam, so in my video I've included the score for you to follow after my recording.

Andrew Toovey studied with Jonathan Harvey, Morton Feldman and Michael Finnissy * Confrontational idiom contrasting raw vigour, melancholic stasis and folklike melody * Inspiration often drawn from contemporary art, heard in the stark juxtaposition of blocks of instrumental colour * Technical demands of works welcomed by a generation of young virtuoso performers including pianist James Clapperton and members of composer's own ensemble IXION * Works performed at Huddersfield, Bergen and Banff Festivals and Darmstadt Summer School * Interpreters include Ensemble Modern, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Music Theatre Wales
    Works by Andrew Toovey include:
    Ate (1986) for chamber ensemble
Winter Solstice (1988) for high voice and seven instrumentalists
Black Light (1989) for chamber ensemble
    Adam (1989) for mixed ensemble
"Toovey's music is unapologetically complex, though personal and powerful too." - The Times

Thanks very much for posting my Red Bird on TH-cam - it's a really lovely sensitive and dramatic (when needed) I don't know if you know my other pieces in the Spectrum series - Still and Little Dances. It's really good to hear you play and take care - Andrew Toovey

Sad to say I'm not really a fan of that song, it just didn't really make sence to or speak to me. Oh well, as if anyone likes everything anyway. :p
