  • This is a short tutorial on how to do basic time-value calculations on a TI BA II Plus calculator. It covers Lump Sum, NPV, IRR, and Uneven Cash Flows. Great for students in finance classes.

Hello - I reviewed your lesson as a refresher. My pv answer was $21370 .10 and I reviewed your lesson several times. I did not get your answer. Even if I set the calculation to BGN or END, it was still 21370.10. Any idea why my PV answer not matching?

Im a real estate investor and have been using excel. You don't always have a computer handy so this tutorial is great! I did not even know such a calculator existed. Any other learning you can recommend?

Why am I getting totally different results on BA Calc app? example: the second problem: (100k FV, -90k PV, n 3, pmt 0) - I get like 42,893 (which only divided by 12 gives me the proper I/Y). Should I change some options in this app for it to give me the exact amounts, just like in the video?

Hi Jakub, without me seeing all of your settings, it is hard to know. But you are correct in that it is somehow taking the 3.57 interest rate and "annualizing" it by multiplying it by 12. Of course, the 3.57 number is already annualized, so it is incorrect to multiply by 12 here. 3.57 is the answer. The way you have it set up, it must be defaulting to a setting that believes it is only calculating a monthly periodic rate, not an annual rate. It has to be some kind of setting and you need to change that (I would think).

@@ricthomas6436 thanks Ric for the prompt response. I used some online fin calc and it worked perfectly fine (gave me results just like yours), so there has to be sth with the BA Calc app's default options, just like you say. Thank you.

@@ricthomas6436 Wow, what I just did, worked out so if anyone is having problem like this - I just used the 'Reset' option (2nd funcion of +/- button) and it is now working perfectly fine! :) It's pretty weird that the app had it wrong by default (I've just installed it and it was my first use actually). Thank you Sir, awesome video btw :)
