Problem with Star Citizen is it seems like every game system is waiting for another system to be finished/implemented. So there is this massive pipeline of features which seem _almost_ complete but nowhere near to being put in the game.

Gosh yes, missions, custom markers and qt boost are so sorely needed. Qt jumping via fixed markers is such a massive pain in the butt, this feature can't come soon enough. Also custom markers are what would finally allow us to use our ships as home bases, because rn you can only see the markers within 20km range and the only workaround being a delivery mission box used as a marker, which takes way too much time to set up.
It's crazy that technically and practically that system is fully functional and a 100% in the game already. All they would have to do is copy that system to its own branch and add a button in the UI to "create custom waypoint at this location". TADAAA.
I really hope all of the QT markers from planets and moons wont be available anymore for quick QT travels when we get the new QT system and QT boost. Only the OM markers should remain. The fact that we don't have to penetrate from space to atmosphere manually is a real drawback from the game. Especially when you know this was in the game before. #4 completely blew my mind 🤯 You won’t believe how long I have been waiting for a proper quantum flight mechanics. You know, make space flight interesting in a space game.
#1 Is huge for me too. I imagine base building will serve as a way for you to make waypoints back to a certain spot. Just a little FOB with a building or two.
I'm still waiting for "ship naming", "location marking" (caves, lakes, etc...) and the other low priority features promised through the years. ;-) I just suggested in "Game Ideas" that it would be a morale boost that every three or four months a group of Devs (Promised Feature Team) would release a low priority feature, such as "ship naming", "location marking" (caves, lakes, etc...) to the game.
The new quantum travel mechanics was something I was looking forward to as well. Plus, actor status 2.0, and by now shouldn't we had the ability to attach our helmets to our waist already ? I know it's kind of implemented in a half way but it doesn't work. Especially because you can't magically "store" the helmet in the station inventory volume anymore, you either need a backpack or hold the helmet in your hand and put it somewhere if you don't have storage nearby, if you want to drink/eat something. I know they have to design all the interiors of the helmets still and I guess the feature is being held up for that to finish. Also, the interaction system is a bit confusing, some interactions with touchscreens have to be done in the old method, like elevator panels and some "display" buttons. Others, have a prompt. Not all interactions have transitioned over to the new system very well, which leaves it in a half way experience. - EVA pedaling and leaping - actor status v2 / hygiene / prostheses - ground vehicle spawning on our freight elevator - inventory management QoL and workflow improvements more consistent drag and drop vetween various storage devices in the same panel) - fixing up cargo grids with several ships, like the taurus and raft (don't accept always all kinds of mission boxes) I'm hopeful that 4.1, 4.2 etc will bring us a lot of focus on these smaller QoL improvements before the 1.0 features are really setting in.
Shareable Map Markers - Agree. It would have been really nice to have that this year. Stability - I don't see how this would have been possible this year. They are rewriting major chunks of core tech to get server meshing working so I don't expect to see any real stability until that work finalized. Investigation Contracts - This would have been really nice to have. This game is definitely content starved. Quantum Boost - Definitely would have improved the experience, without I tend to stick to locations that have a QT marker. Improved Voice - This is a tough one. People are comfortable with Discord because it's been around forever. Regardless of whether VOIP is stable or not, I suspect a lot of players will never use it or resist it because they have been able to play the game without for so long. You make a valid point, here but as long as Discord works VOIP will never dominate despite all the positives that could come from it. Having said that, there are also some negatives, for example, I don't want to hear others players' music blasting through my speakers/headset when I have a distinctly different taste in music. Nor do I want to hear all of their background noise either because not everyone knows or cares about that. I feel so strongly about this, that until we can mute individuals I probably will never use VOIP.
I think if 4.0 came in the summer, a 4.1 or possibly even 4.2 in December could have been relatively stable, especially seeing the server FPS we are seeing in early testing now.
I'm all for stability and it's obviously important, but to offer a counterpoint - what's the point in a stable experience if there is no real gameplay coming with it, and by gameplay I mean a completely closed loop of gameplay. A target if you like. A stable sandbox is great, a game would be far better.
@@Syphirioth Whilst that may be true, these systems have been in development for a number of years now. It begs the question just how much feature creep there has been in recent years.
