    “Don’t half-ass your life” is the best advice I’ve ever heard. I wish every young person could hear that and take it to heart. I’m 63 years old and have had an interesting and adventurous life (with the scars to prove it). I can’t imagine the sadness of reaching my age and only squeaking by in life.

      I love and celebrate this comment. I'm a very forward-minded extrovert, my lovely wife is an introvert of introverts, but she talks my ear off when we're together.
      The thing is, it has bothered her when people say she "doesn't talk". She is just very observant, likes to listen, and is mindful and careful about what she says. Introverts can come across as lacking emotion, but the in truth they are very emotional and deeply so. Words affect them deeply, be them kind or insulting. Getting to know an introvert and earning their trust takes time and can be a lot of work, but the pay off is totally worth it. All of my closest friends have been introverts.

    I introduced my kids by gifting each of them their corresponding sized Red Ryder bb guns. Before each time we took them out, they had to put on their eye protection and recite the 4 cardinal rules for handling firearms. They're around my guns all the time and know to treat them responsibly. At ages 8 and 11, I've since taken them shooting with .22's. They each have their own case with eye and ear pro and still recite the 4 cardinal rules of handling firearms before each range session. 100% agree that there is no across the board age answer, but I believe a lot has to do with the child's maturity and comprehension ability, but also their upbringing. Don't mystify guns beyond their role as a tool.

      100% agree that there are a lot of factors that determine the "right age" to introduce your firearms to your kids. Regardless, education is they key for sure. Our 15 year old son handles firearms more safely than a lot of adults I know. Like your kiddos, he has been aware for a long time that they aren't toys and are to be respected and handled as such. He also has his own .22 rifle with all of his own gear and we did the same thing with reciting the rules before we would shoot. SO MANY times you see stories of kids accidentally shooting themselves or someone else just because they're naturally curious and firearms have been hidden from them like some dirty little secret.

    I carry everyday, wherever I go, IWB. SIG P365.
    I've shot the Hellcat belonging to a friend. It had about 500 rds through it at the time. I found the grip texture to be sharp and pokey on a bare hand. The weight seemed to be more at the back end because of the grip and mag, I assume, which caused a hot kick with more muzzle rise than I am used to. Not comfortable for me. It's nice looking, but only 11+1 capacity.
    I will stick with my P365 with 15 rd capacity and flatter trajectory, better balance and less perceived recoil.
    Thx for your wonderful videos! Tucson, AZ.

    With both of our kids we told them from an early age that they could handle any of our guns any time they wanted, if they asked me. No matter how busy I was/am when they ask to handle a firearm I stop what I am doing and go get the gun and they can safely handle it. (The definition for “safe” for them is the firearm sitting on the table with the action open) always following the 4 rules of firearms safety. It has worked well and our 15 year old is an incredible shot and his 7 year old sister is now shooting .22 and loving it.

    Great video as usual. One Thing I want to mention is that one of your questions referred to carrying at the post office. To the best of my knowledge, it is a Federal Offence (maybe a felony) to carry a gun in a post office including anywhere on the property. You can't even park your car in the parking lot even if you leave the gun in your car. Same penalty. This is why we carry concealed so that no one knows we're carrying. And why do we carry concealed? To have the element of surprise. Thanks for all the great tips on everything you covered.

However, I can be social in a group, but it takes me about an hour to unwind afterwards. 😉

    Love the Q&A!! About Milas Frito feet- it's YEAST that causes that smell!!!!
    You can put coconut or olive oil into a small dropper bottle & add CLOVE essential oil (start with 10 drops) you want it to smell like cloves but not be super strong. Clove oil is antibacterial & antiviral/antifungal. It works very quickly but use it AM/PM, rub into her paws & between toes. A foot massage as she's sleeping. By the time she wakes up, it will be absorbed. Treat for a week to make sure it's gone. If her feet are wet, towel dry them thoroughly to keep the moisture down. TIP: this works the same for itchy EARS! When they're shaking their head & flapping ears constantly it's either yeast or possibly mites (a q-tip will have black gunk on it if it's mites). This clove oil mixture works for both!!
    Clove is TOXIC TO CATS.

    I have actually been wanting to ask you this question for a little while now. I wanted to see what your thoughts were for you and Mac to come up with a class at MFS, that would involve kids on teaching them safety. Not necessarily gun safety but safety in general if they found Firearms Etc. I know there are sources out there, but I think it may be a good idea to have something like that. I know a class like this might have to be forced on a zoom call or something, but in-person teaching has always been a preference of ours. While I carry all the time, my daughter who is 11 has no idea of this. I'm not sure at what point if any she should really know about it until she becomes older and more responsible.

    question for Mac on 9m bullets. 124 grain and up. Duty weapon? Sig 365 same or 115 grain?. If you can't find short barrel what do you do? I saw on a site for gold dots they had 3 categories. 1. for micro, 1 for compacts and one for Duty or full size. Thank you and I love you both as a couple and recommend this channel when taking new female shooters to the range.

      From Mac: I like 147 grain but I have nothing against 124 grain. I feel that 147 grain works better across more barrel lengths. My duty weapon is a S&W M&P 2.0 4 inch 9mm. I shoot 147 grain Federal HST.

I had my daughter shoot when she was 10. She doesn't enjoy it. Now a young woman, she doesn't carry but knows both safety and how to defend herself.

    Texas just passed constitutional carry and I wonder if a large majority will drop their concealed carry license and assume they can now carry without the burden of the application process, etc. I personally plan on keeping my license due to the fact that it allows me to carry in a number of states with which we have reciprocity and or other agreements which allow carrying in that state. Your thoughts on this matter.

    • @earlmorton1216
      @earlmorton1216 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another advantage to having a concealed carry license (at least in Idaho, where I live) is that when you buy a firearm, the store doesn't have to do the NICS background check process, because the license shows that you've already passed. I don't know if that's true in other constitutional carry states.

    • @davegift197
      @davegift197 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm from Kansas where we've had Constitutional Carry effective since 2015, one if the earlier States to codify it. I know that the numbers of new applications to the State for CHL licenses went way down. Some still apply and the State has reduced application fee slightly.
      But many, including me kept the CHL active for several reasons. 1) the rule about not being within 1000' from a school carrying doesn't apply with the CHL. Technically, even carrying in the yard when living close to a school is a felony as well as driving on the street by the school. I can't go into the school carrying but could pick up my kid outside there if I wanted. 2) Carrying in the 30+ States that recognize Kansas concealed carry laws is convenient and lawful. So, I can travel in surrounding States, as they recognize Kansas CCL without issues. 3) Purchasing a firearm is much quicker. I still have to complete Form 4473 but the gun store doesn't have to call in to get NICS approval.
      A couple of years ago, Cabela's had a Black Friday sale with a Ruger 10-22 Takedown I really wanted at an almost giveaway price. Even though I spent the night lined up outside and was about the hundredth person in the line, I went directly to the gun counter along with probably 50 others. I walked out of there in 30 minutes from store entrance when many there before me were still filing out their forms. Cabela's saw my CHL card and got me right in and out. Since then, I've used it a number of times and it makes it very simple to purchase any firearm. And the Kansas renewal is only $25 every four years. It's a no-brainer for me.
      4) Kansas then extended Concealed Carry to State Colleges for any buildings not having metal detectors or Security at the door. Colleges were given time to try to establish that Security and many now have metal detectors at Sports venues so carry not allowed there. And they require a holster to have a retention system or strap holding the firearm into the holster. But it's all so much better than before. Same is true for State Buildings. I can even carry in the State Capitol without issues even though they have security and metal detectors.
      The best part is the rhetoric proved wrong from Bloomberg, Mom's and others about mass shootings, shootings on campus (some KU Teachers actually quit their job because of fear an unhappy student would shoot them). Nope, Shootings didn't jump as the naysayers wanted us to believe. And felons don't know whether someone they choose as prey might be armed.
      Congratulations on having lawmakers who have common sense

    I have three sons. When they were just pre teen, I took them to my local range where they had a free program, as part of family membership ($60.00/ year, at the time) which consisted of: two consecutive Saturdays: first day is classroom activities, gun safety basic terminology of both long guns and handguns including proper handling loading and unloading (using snap caps and unloaded, safe firearms) with practice. Second Saturday, the week following, live fire with a .22 rifle on an outdoor range with gun, ammo, target, eyes and ears all provided along with, obviously, instruction by a certified instructor. Each Saturday, following training, they had a BBQ with hot dogs, chips and soft drinks. My main objective in doing this was to have them actually feel how a trigger can easily discharge a firearm and have the hands on experience which cannot be taught in books or classroom.
    That was the best sixty bucks I ever invested. By the way, I subsequently took them to the indoor range, a few months later, and had each of them fire my 9mm handgun, both as a review of the four safety fundamentals and to experience the difference between a .22 and larger ammo in an indoor setting with others firing. Even tho' I have generally encouraged them to continue with firearms, as of now, they show little interest (they are late twenties).

    For a 1911, get a beavertail grip safety and you can get one with a rib on the back to make this problem go away.

    After much discussion with many firearms "veterans", the wife and I decided to introduce our kids to firearms at the age of 6. It was kept locked up, but I told her if she ever wanted to see it, she could ask me at any time. This was to minimize the mystery and curiosity that goes along with firearms. I would show her that I unload it and check if it's unloaded, and then check again. We started out with teaching her the 4 rules and once she was familiar with them and could tell me what they mean, I took her out to the range. I used 1 gallon jugs of water and a couple of melons to demonstrate the destructive power these tools are capable of (with the help of some hollowpoints to make it as dramatic as I could.) When we got home she would help me disassemble the pistol, clean and lubricate, and reassemble it. She was an incredibly fast learner.

    Mac: I'm competent and confident two-handed, strong only, and weak only with my S&W model 10. Do I really need to switch to an auto-loader, or am I good to go. I'm not interested in changing if I don't have to.

    • @bobmacquarrie
      @bobmacquarrie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't...good wheelgun shooters are generally faster & more accurate than a ton of auto loaders....stick with what works...I generally dont like change...when people are 1st starting out I push them in the auto direction but if a revolver works for you I say stick with it and be proud..

      Nobody is making you do anything. Have you ever needed to use that revolver? It's statistically unlikely you will ever have to.

    My son is 6 at the moment and knows how to shoot a handgun as well a rifle. He's not the best shot but he has been part of them since he was born. I been a gun nut for ever and have haf many around. He knows the safety rules and fired his first gun (9mm) at the age of 2. If you teach them well any age is perfeft, the younger the better. It's always better to teach them at home rather than learning on the street.

    If you can’t get a hellcat it is time to pack up the house and move south to a free state where you can get whatever you want. Have a good size property for your own range for yourself or for teaching.
    From some of your reviews I have seen you probably wouldn’t like it. It is a bit smaller than the shield plus. It does conceal well. For me it doesn’t shoot as well as I would like. A lot of it is my fundamentals Brian working on that. The shield plus dead better with a Glock 43X is better than it.

    My father started bringing his EMPTY 1911 down stairs and putting it on the Floor for me to "play" with, I was about 4 or 5 yrs old. after dropping it on my feet several times and realizing how heavy it was. And it did not do anything! after a week or two i stopped fooling with it, and he stopped bringing it down. At ten he bought me a marlin bolt action 22 rifle, which i could only shoot with him. pistol shooting started at about 14

    The question about reloading.
    Better to have the tool and never need it, than to need it and not have it.
