    Nice job and great video! I have dug 3 wells on my farm using a similar method. A few suggestions. You should not put the end cap on until the screen is cut, as fine shavings will get in there and contaminate the water and/or end up in the well pump when purging the well. Also try not try to draw too much water too quickly or the screen will eventually get clogged (for instance, a deep well hand-pump) - I learned my lesson and my well just about stopped percolating because it took too much water too quickly. To prevent this on my other well, I dug a bit deeper and made a longer screen. Having a longer water column means you can draw significantly more water more quickly. Also, sediment will settle at the bottom of the pipe where the end cap is and eventually it can get up to the screen where it clogs it from the inside.

      Yea I eventually settled on using a wellpoint: th-cam.com/video/IRLLbmcnYjA/w-d-xo.html. It's been going for almost a year now with zero problems, which I still find surprising. I will do a followup video in a few months after it's been a full year.

      I jet 4 inch wells in pastures for cattle. I started using a filter sock around the slotted casing pipe to help prevent fine sand from getting in the casing. Stops 99 percent of fine stuff. Fine clay can still get in. I pump my wells hard right away and get great flow. like 20gpm plus.

    I put in a bore by hand some years ago, I hammered steel casing down to about 20 feet. I fabricated a point to fit on the bottom. My steel casing was in sections about 3ft long as it is driven down I would weld on a new piece. When I got to the bottom of my hole I lowered down a stainless steel screen attached to 1 inch PVC. The process is called a spear. After spear was installed I used pea gravel to cover the spear then with drew the steel casing leaving the spear behind. It worked perfectly.

    I just finished watching 3 or 4 of your well videos, and applaud you for your efforts. Will also leave a comment on each one. I've done similar shallow wells over the years in my yard (Easy digging, all sand...like yours), and have tried a couple others. There is no conclusion to this style, and I'll speculate why.
    But 1st will say, you left out the part about filling the 4" casing hole with "trap-rock" around the casing screen, to allow the water to penetrate. We're sure you did that, right? You did show the bags, but only showed the mortar filling the hole.
    And next, you didn't elaborate what you did to the 4" casing, when your digger hit the mud. If you want the 1' plastic well point to be a couple feet below the water table, and you plugged off the bottom of the 4" casing, how did you drive it 2' (or more) into the mud? Your posthole digger won't make a deep enuff hole, because it will keep filling with mud. I know, cause it happened to me. No getting around it. I'm just guessing that you didn't get your 1" PVC pipe in deep enuff water, to supply your needs. Maybe that's why your next video, (only a month later) shows new 1 1/4" black pipe, with a driven sand point.

      @@BadHomeowner I see. In that case it's the same work. Gluing a belled end is easier than a coupling but as you've used a coupling the work to replace it is the same. You are correct.
      I've never used glue on the several wells that I've done. I never felt it was worth putting toxic chemicals on pipes that already sit in water and collect water meant to be potable.
      I still say you should have shown the finished work. There is no real evidence that the well functions unless you demonstrate the completed project. Most people who watch a project unfold are not satisfied until they can see the end result.

      He put gravel and/or pebbles in first which he neglected to show. The gravel will allow water seepage into the slits that he cut into the pipe. Otherwise, the grout would have blocked everything and he would not have been able to draw water out of the well. I would suggest to him that because he forgot to actually mention about adding the pebbles, he should put it in text on his video because it's confusing for people to see, and even worse if people follow what he did and put grout without the pebbles, destroying everything he did.

      hey, what do you need? I'm in Norfolk, I think we should have similar water tables unless you're near the swamp, in which case it will be higher for you. You can also check out my wellpoint video which may be a bit easier depending on what your soil is like: th-cam.com/video/IRLLbmcnYjA/w-d-xo.html

    So grout on top of the gravel, fill up to the surface? 10+ feet of grout?

    • @BadHomeowner
      @BadHomeowner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I filled with about ~6 ft of gravel, probably another ~4 ft of grout that stops a couple ft below the surface. Grout doesn't need to come all the way to the surface.

  • @bustersmith9690
    @bustersmith9690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You didn’t grout the well properly.lt states in the regulations not to poor cement from the top of hole you were supposed to use a trimey pipe and grout from bottom of casing to the top

    • @BadHomeowner
      @BadHomeowner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's only necessary for wells that are hundreds of feet deep to avoid large air pockets. For a 15ft well it's perfectly fine to pour from the top.

    • @BadHomeowner
      @BadHomeowner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd think the'd only collapse if 1) you are digging a really big (wide) hole, or 2) if your water table is very high. In those cases, I'd consider using a well point or a jetted well instead of an auger.

    Grout will be more porous?? 🤔 And allow water into your well? If so your water must be supremely clean. Got a follow up video? How did you know how far too dig down? And so what did you do with your gravel? I thought you would have put gravel at the bottom then seal it with grout. Ty in advanced of your response ❤ Peace and Health

    • @TheFalconJetDriver
      @TheFalconJetDriver 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LetsRoll239 I have to correct you he did use grout! Not the kind grout used on tile though. Grout is a different composition than cement!
      Grout dries with a tighter grain less porous than cement! Think of rice in a jar and compare it to having sugar in anther jar. The grains of sugar are tighter than the rice. I hope this helps. 😁🛫

    • @BadHomeowner

      As a practical matter, it's hard to dig with an auger much below the water level because the walls start to collapse. I did another video with a sandpoint which allows you to go deeper: th-cam.com/video/IRLLbmcnYjA/w-d-xo.html

    • @celebrityfocus7414
      @celebrityfocus7414 ปีที่แล้ว

      When i started to dig, i saw water at 2 feet, i went on to 7 feet but much water was obstructing so i stopped at 7 feet. I discovered that water was coming from the walls rather than form the bottom of the hole .dug.

      @@BadHomeowner but a bad idea! The slots would be so big it allow sand in the pipes. A better solution is to use what is called chemical PVC well test pipe the 4 foot section of pipe has .5 micron slits that keeps out sand. A well drilling supply house has these. They are used when underground fuel tanks are placed, several test wells are drilled to test the ground water for a leaking tank.
