Once you get your ears around a short melodic line always ending in the same Hawaiian riff, their improvisation within those bounds is rich and intricate. I'm getting to love this music, which I first heard in the soundtrack of Descendants, a favorite movie.
I can be in a rotten mood but when I hear Mr. Kaapana begin playing I can’t help but smile and move to a better place. Slack key is the happiest music on earth!😁😁😁
Since 'finding' Slack Key via Acoustic Guitar I have watched as many vids of Ledward and Fran as I can. They are a great combination, watching Fran's face though when Led starts improvising is a treat. May they keep on playing together and entertaining the rest of us.
I've been playing alongside Led for about ten years and he still pulls out some surprises every time we get together. He's just one of those people with music inside that has to come out. Fran
I lived in Honolulu for over a decade, and always loved the slack key guitar tunes I heard on there. Now that I have started learning to play guitar, I am looking forward to learning some slack key songs.
At 77 I've been playing 1st. Ukelele then, guitar since the early '50s I recently discovered Slack Guitar and am hooked on it! Always loved open "G" tuning.
Led has produced a slack key tutorial video with Homespun Music and Acoustic Guitar Magazine has published some tutorials on his playing. And Led teaches at George Kahumoku's music camp each year. It can seem daunting at first but in some ways slack key is the easiest way to play fingerstyle guitar. Fran
I'm watching this man play in the old steeple on Idaho public TV I love this music!

A thumbs up and a shaka from me. Some of my best keiki memories are hearing slack key in Honolulu in the early 70s. Aloha!

You can't always tell where one ends and the other begins. Whatever, as LK says, "the music is always there."

Really together, Ledward and Fran! The Collings sounds great for open G slack key.

Awesome Guitar Playing
Ledward has been a master player since he was a teenager and just keeps getting better. It's a great honor to play alongside him.
Fran
I wish I had you talent just so I can for myself to play the guitar at the beach
Very nice :)
Sounds like God is kissing your ears...❤️
Awesome! You definately deserve more subscribers!
Mahalo Brother and lets not forget Fran Guidry 👍🎶🤙❤️
And lets not forget the Mexicans who gave guitars to the Hawaiians...

Open G tuning?
Yes, D G D G B D from low pitch to high. It's really a fun tuning.
Fran
Reminds me so much of John Fahey
It's like Fahey was listening to Hawaiian slack key guitar. (He must have been.)
I think Fahey was inspired by slack key along with the other styles be built on.
