I was born January 1970 so I grew up listening to Sheila E. and I was obsessed with her. I fucking love her so much I wanted to be like her!! Back in the day that’s how it was us girls we wanted to be like Sheila E. or Madonna and whatever! I’m 53 years old now, so I’ll look at things differently, but I still freaking love her man she’s a bad ass. My Puerto Rican sister!
You mentioned Sheila E being a Prince protégé. It got me thinkin', you can tell a lot about an artist when you consider who their mentors were, and who they in turn inspired. The artists that they associate, or collaborate with. The respect that they give and receive, when covering another performer, or simply when being discussed in the music world.
