  • We took our four kids on a day trip to see the MAGICAL Königssee and Obersee lakes in Berchtesgaden National Park, and we were blown away! It is a breathtaking place and is definitely a must-see in Germany (Deutschland). We're so happy we were able to show our children more of the beauty in Germany, and only a 45-minute drive away. We got to eat at a restaurant for the first time since we moved to Germany and were able to try Kaiserschmarrn for the first time! We hope you enjoy seeing how our family experienced this special park. We plan to go back to hike and stay overnight, too.

Fantastic video in an awesome area of Bavaria. May I, however, remind viewers from outside Germany that this only one small aspect of German geography, landscape, culture, architecture, etc. Germany also has fantastic big rivers - the Danube and Rhine are just the biggest ones, with castles on every other hilltop; There's the North Sea and the Baltic Sea with beaches; the wine regions with vinyards everywhere - especially in the fall, when the leaves turn golden, and every village has their own wine festival. Then there is truly amazing industrial culture in the cities. And so much more ... Hopefully you will be able to see and vlog these, too in the future.

Nice, looks like you had a great "Vormittag" at the Königssee. You've probably already heard of it, but Berchtesgaden made me think of the salt mine they have close to there. It's actually a working salt mine and the Bad Reichenhall salt comes from there. There is a part of it you can tour and you go into the mountain on a little train like the miners used at one point and within you go down a couple of wooden slides and even cross a lake within the caves on some floats. Plus you learn about salt mining. It's actually pretty cool and I'm sure the kids would enjoy it. If you just google Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden, it should just pop up 😉

Im not 100% sure but i think the good Batterys came from the fact that Germany (The Emperor) needed them for the "U-Boot Waffe" he was implementing in the Navy that time so Varta had the order to make them better/more powerfull and smaller in size so they can be used in Submarines. Emperor Willhelm II. loved his Navy so much that he pushed the developement really hard. He wanted an equal counterpart to the British Royal Navy.

I wish I had more time and taken my time to turn left and explore this beautiful area also. Maybe, when I'm able to return to Germany after covid to visit my sister, can we both come tour the sights... But only when it's warmer.

If you are using the Autobahn in Austria, make sure you have a valid toll sticker ("Pickerl") attached to the windshield of your car, even if its only for a few km. The sticker is available at gas stations near the border. This avoids a possible toll fine of at least 120 euros. .... Austria is kind of famous for "highway robbery". ;-)

@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife i think it is really funny. Americans are going everywhere but use the car for going. Germans fahren überall hin. Wir fahren nach Köln, wir fahren in den Urlaub, wir fahren ans Meer, wir fahren zu Stephan, wir fahren zu Aldi… it doesn‘t matter if we go there by bike, car, train or even airplane(we use fliegen, if we want to point out that we fly. But if it is just „we‘re going to Hawaii“ we use fahren). Just in case we walk there we actually say „gehen“. Ich gehe zu meinem Nachbarn. But we also use it for events. Wir gehen zum Konzert/Jahrmarkt/Fußballspiel, also if we go there by car. But for the actual way we fahren again. „Gehst du auch zum Konzert morgen?“ but „Wir fahren jetzt zum Konzert“(If we don‘t walk there). It is really confusing, even just writing the description
The other use of „gehen“ is with the mood thing. „Wie geht es dir?“ - „Danke, mir geht es gut“. To mess it up completely we also use „laufen“(run). „Wie läuft es bei dir?“ - „Kann nicht meckern“(🤪🤪🤪also if I really try🤪🤪🤪). Gehen is more to ask for the mood, laufen is more the whole situation.
      Hope this helps

I learnt German from English. Use fahren instead of gehen for any type of “going somewhere “ in a vehicle or vessel - car, boat, train, bicycle etc. then use gehen for when you walk.
Germans like to be specific on everything including how you’re getting there!
Loving your channel so much. Thanks for bringing armchair travel to those of us stuck at home. 💕 from Australia.

    • @V100-e5q

@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife You can use visit "besuchen" instead. Gehen will be used more foran event: "Wir gehen _ins_ Konzert." Wo go to a concert. Also: "Wir gehen _nach_ Hause." We go home. If you leave an event (e.g. party). If you travel: "Wir fahren nach Hause." We return home. But the difference is small. "Gehen" is more like occasion/event oriented while "fahren" is more used with a location. So "wir gehen nach Österreich" means we are moving to Austria (PCS) for good while "Wir fahren nach Österreich" means visiting for a limited time like a vacation.

The worst thing of driving to Austria is that you most certainly need a costly toll Vignette to use their highways
and they declare their main roads at the borders as ones to rip off tourists.
They even use automatic toll systems to check for them and fine you if you don't have bought one.
To the battery Boats, at the time of the early 20th century there where quite a few electric vehicles such as milk delivery cars, but then oil and fuel has taken over the market.

Electric boats are mostly used on reservoirs if there is boat traffic allowed. The reason is that combustion engines give off exhausts and oil into the water. Which is a no-no if the water will be used as drinking water. But I dunno about the situation at Königssee.

You must be very carefull when you drive across to austria. They have toll. You have to buy a "pickerl" it´s called. It´s enough you drive hundred Meter over the border without a toll, you get fined. You have to buy a One Day Ticket or even more days or month and you get a sticker and pulled it on the windshield. So the borderline officer is very calm at you let you go to germany without a fined. Lucky Family :)

The first battery powered carriage was created by the Scotsman Robert Anderson between 1832 and 1839. The first electric powered car was created by the German Andreas Flocken in 1888. Also in 1888 the Spanish engineer Isaac Peral built the first electric powered submarine. So battery technology was already quite advanced in 1909.
