[APH CMV] 1961

On August 13th, 1961, a 96.3 mile long wall was erected through the center of Berlin. This wall, which started as meager barricades and barbed wire fences, soon turned into two 13 ft tall walls, with guard dogs, land mines, and surveillance towers. With orders to kill anyone who crossed, this flat land between the walls became known as the “death strip.” The wall stood for 28 years, separating the democratic west and the communist east, and subsequently, the family, friends, and people of Germany. It wasn’t until November 9th, 1989, did the wall finally fall.
