Wonderful video, I only recently learned of how many great painters knew each other and then I saw Monet's Sunflowers admired and inspiring for a certain Mr VanGogh. Oh for a seat at those meetings! You are more than a great consolation, love your work, greatly appreciated, truly.
Your TH-cam is one of my favorites about art. I learn more about artists I am familiar with. And I really enjoy learning about artists I didn’t know about. The depth of information is wonderful. Can’t thank you enough.
If i could click the like button 100 times i would. Your video's are just so amazing. They could be great educational tools for children. Schools should use these. Thanks for making me a more knowlegable person.
Like most people, I knew of Mauve primarily thru his connection to his famous cousin. Today barely anyone knows his name or work. Strange to think that during their lives, Van Gogh was unknown, Mauve quite successful. As an aside many years ago a former girlfriend showed me what she described as a framed print of some sheep she had recently bought for nothing at an estate sale. To me it looked like an original watercolor. It was signed, A. Mauve. Never had a chance to get a better look at it.
Oh my goodness - How amazing that your former girlfriend stumbled upon a piece by Mauve! I wonder if it was an original or print as well. I really love his work and hope I can raise viewer's awareness of him even just a little. His work shows up on occasion in my videos. Thanks for sharing that story.
@@JillPoyerdFineArt I always thought it actually more likely to be original than an old commercial reproduction , since he wasn't well known, and reproducing a watercolor seems unlikely. Guess I'll never know. Thanks for responding. Love your channel. Your videos are so well done. Good for you for raising Mauve's profile. As a leader of the mostly forgotten Tonalist school, I'm sure he would appreciate it.
Hmm, I'm not aware of a source off-hand. A Google search gives you some options when you type in key words "Flock of Sheep with Shepherd Anton Mauve print" although I can't say who is reputable. You would have to research them.
Fabulous. That dark stick on the left was annoying initially. It is an "S" shape. Once that big stick was removed and the two smaller lines removed, the painting was not as interesting. So where is the viewers attention? Looks like the sheep herder needs help; maybe not - hard to tell. Thank you for this video on Mauve. Never heard of him- thought the video would be about the color "mauve." So now I have been introduced to another painter! Yes!
I may have? I did post two videos from this series a while back. They were part of what I was doing with Patreon. When I decided I couldn't maintain Patreon with all my other activities, I took the page down and removed the two videos on TH-cam (they promoted the Patreon page...). I actually can't remember which two I had posted! Sorry for any confusion. At some point, another video will feel like a repeat as well, but there are about 8 new ones to come.
Love meeting artists I was not familiar with before. Terrific video!
Thank you for introducing me to another wonderful artist.

Oh yes - I'd take a seat in that meeting as well! Glad you enjoy the new series, Debra.
I so enjoy these. Thank you 😊

That's so wonderful to hear, Pam. Thank you for that! It really means a lot to me.
Muted palettes can be very expressive. Mauve knew his stuff!
So true. And boy, did he!
Jill's videos are a joy!
Excellent analysis, thank you!

Hello Jill I really enjoyed your look at the painting. I was just wondering if you could recommend a good quality print of the painting?
Hmm, I'm not aware of a source off-hand. A Google search gives you some options when you type in key words "Flock of Sheep with Shepherd Anton Mauve print" although I can't say who is reputable. You would have to research them.
@Jill Poyerd Fine Art I was just hoping that you might know a good one. Thanks, for the reply and good luck with the channel.

He is a wonderful painter. I think you'll enjoy seeing more of his work! Glad I could introduce you to him...
He was also a cousin and short term teacher to Van Gogh be for a falling out.
Hi Jill! 👋🏼 I hope you are well! Didn’t you cover these paintings before? I am getting a very strong sense of deja vu.
You're not the only one. I could swear this video was posted a couple of months ago.

You may be correct (see the response to Rich below). I also feature a few Mauve paintings in my various videos. I'm so sorry if it was confusing!
@@JillPoyerdFineArt Nothing to apologise for! I love your videos :)
@@awatercolourist I did wonder if it would confuse viewers. Funny that I can't remember which I had posted!
Jill, come to Islam n success
Thanks!
Thank you as well, Colleen! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
