I am a pastor I'm Calgary, Alberta Canada. I saw the title "Living in Christ's Presence" on Audible. I bought it without knowing who the author was. I knew Ortberg. I had heard of Dallas Willard. When I was in highschool, my Dad (also a pastor) had "Divine Conspiracy" on his shelf. All of this to say, I was just desperate for more. I saw the title, bought it and started listening. I heard the voice of a man who had electric life in his voice (even though it was frail). I heard John Ortberg speak of Dallas with such honor. This is the book that awakened tremendous desire for God in me. God used it to divert my eyes from me and my circumstances to Himself. I have listened to that book 8-10 times since. I recommend it to everyone but insist they listen to it in Dallas's voice rather than read it. I have since tried to introduce Christ in Dallas to everyone I know but I have a very specific order. 1. Start with L.I.C.P. 2. Becoming Dallas Willard 3. Eternal Living 4. Everything Else Once people encounter the man who lived in a different time zone. They will be hungry to hear anything and everything he had to say about the Jesus he actually knew.
Just discovered Dallas Willard and I am so grateful to the Lord, that He sent this wonderful teacher in my way. I am 68 but I hope I still have some time to learn from him, meditate on his phrases and apply it in my earthly life. Gentle and mysterious are God's ways indeed!
Dallas, this gracious gentle and ever so kind brother in Christ definitely lived in another time zone! A good one! It was John Ortberg‘s book on Soul Keeping which first introduced me to Dallas. I have since grown to appreciate this calm, gentle, wise and ever so fatherly man of God with his wit and his CLEAR teaching of the truth! It will be wonderful to meet him in „heaven’s time zone“! Thank you, Mr. Foster for your kind words! Grace 💕 and peace ☮️ be yours!
I never met Dallas personally, but I've read just about all of his books. I learned so much from him, not getting the chance to meet him will always be a great regret for me. I sobbed when I heard of his passing. As I said, we never met, but I miss him nonetheless.
Letitia Gamez, in Heaven there will be so many we will be able to talk to. I am grateful I found his lectures on here a while back. Thanks to him, I discovered Richard J. Foster. Another giant.
Did someone chose thumbs down for my late brother in Christ. Oh my? Thank you John Ortberg for introducing Christ in Dallas to me at this stage in my life. Now I know why Martha's sister had chosen to sit by Jesus' feet instead of going to help in the kitchen. This man.....can bring you so close to his warm heart. I pray for more men like him because they will make Jesus have a bit of faith in humanity. May God rest my brother in Christ Dallas near him and while he is enjoying that, cast his eyes across to my parents and let them know that I am a changed person and a true follower of Christ that he glorified and made Him adjust himself to enjoy my companion from where I had deliberately left Him as I parsued life my own way. Thank Jesus for coming to me through your servant.
I heard of his name from Chip Ingram and oh mine, I did check him out and now I am feeding on his books, Renovations of the Heart is beautiful truth that everyone should read and practise. I wish that his books can be explained off in the local akan language.
Without prompting, this little video showed up, unbidden, on my phone this morning. I take it as an answer to my prayers for a sense of my Lord’s presence during this life-suspending, lonely-during-the-holidays time of covid-19. Thank you, Richard, for saying just enough and no more. As always.
