Cows are so curious and funny; when we lived at the old cottage I'd walk down to the garage and dig my daily car out to give her the weekly wash, my pusscat Prue always found me and she'd fuss about. Then I'd just feel as though I was being watched and turn around and there'd be some 20 cows lined up at the fence watching me, Prue had by then gone over to see them and was having a wash too. They'd stand there for as long as it took me to wash wash the car then with the entertainment gone they also left. They obviously found this funny human most entertaining!😄

That is the heartlands of Cheshire's waterways the old I.C.I traffic routes where the "ships" (coasters) like "Polythene" fascinated me as a young lad. and superb countryside, this particular video will find it's way into my book. Wow! That Devils Garden has to be one of the most picturesque moorings ever, so so beautiful! Wonderful to share that experience with friends too. Wonder why somewhere so lovely had a name like that though? Would love to know the history behind that name. Guess I'm just another nosey Bullock! 😄🐮
Thank you Heidi for your videos. They bring back such fond memories of my own narrowboat adventures of about 30 years ago. A couple of lady friends and I rented and cruised from Milton Keynes on the Grand Union Canal for about a week. There was the Mad Cow disease problem so some of the canals were closed, but we did have locks, bridges, a viaduct, and long tunnels to navigate. Anyhow those two young ladies are gone now, but memories of them and all the wonderful people we met and drank beer with are remembered fondly. So, thank you for rekindling all those good memories.

Hey Heidi, on a previous vlog you asked how to thicken stews / soups etc. Lightly sieve in some plain flower and stir- this will thicken any watery soups / stews. Always sieve tho, otherwise you'll end up with 'jizzy' looking lumps of flour in your stew 😅

Nooooo I’m not up to date … this was a couple of weeks ago … it takes so long to collate the footage, copy it all over and then edit I’m usually a couple of weeks behind …. All the heat wave stuff is still on my phone and I’ve not even began to organise it yet as working on next weeks episode 😂😂
Watched when this first came on the Telly with my daughter where I couldn’t comment. Lots of bull this time. 🤪I very rarely asked questions but whenever I watch folks start their engines they just turn the key……just round aboutly inherited a diesel 4 wheeler (quad bike I think you folks say) and it reminded me that you wait for the glow plugs to warm up before engaging the starter. Do vlogers just leave out the waiting? Anyways I always enjoy. Thank you.
It depends how cold it is maybe ? Some key starts warm it up when it’s in the first position … my old boat I had to turn it left for 5 seconds then right but this one isn’t like that and I have a little lift pump I lift before starting

You have a life jacket on because your apparently smarter than most boaters, my rule would be if the boat is moving then the life jacket is worn at all times. That’s my rule in my speed boat and I’ve had guest say no they wouldn’t wear one..they didn’t go on boat , my boat…my rules 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

How amazing, meeting up with two of my favourite narrowboat vloggers who I have been following since they started vlogging. I have met the crew of Morning Star and had a cup of coffee aboard then I gave them a lift back to pick up their car. The crew from Forget me not has not had the pleasure of me yet, but I know they can't wait... 🤣 I haven't met you yet Heidi and I keep watching in case you drop Anchor anywhere nearer to God's own Country of Yorkshire. So that's what those splitter things are for. I went up on a cog-railway in a coal-fired steam train once, and got a face-full of mess when it blew its load and it came in through the windows. By the time I went down again, I had more soot on my face than a Mary Poppins chimney sweep back-up dancer.
A steam powered train with open viewing cars is a bit messy when going through a tunnel. Those who know better retreat to a closed passenger car ahead of time.

@@TheNarrowboatPirate I'm glad that conditions have improved. Here in the states heat waves can last for weeks. That is why most homes have air conditioning. Your 18 low speed Lister horse power will match up well with 50 or more horse power from those noisy high speed new fangled screaming sewing machine power plants most of the boats seem to be saddled with!! I'll take an old thumper any day!!
Yes I think that’s why I have a much bigger prop than a normal boat to compensate for my low revving engine but I do struggle on shallow canals as my boat sits lower in the water 🏴☠️
@@TheNarrowboatPirate Well,...with the depth of the canals being a bit of an issue now and then I guess there is always a trade-off but I would still prefer the Lister and the big propeller, even if it does scoop up stuff from the bottom of the canal now and then. I think you could tow your friends on the river and not loose much speed or burn much more fuel! Heavy iron is the best!! Do you still have a hand crank to start the engine?
@@rickc5303 it has a key start fitted now thankfully but still a faff and it’s in the engine room, not near the back where I stand so if it stalls I’m dashing through my boatman’s cabin in a stress 😂😂

@@TheNarrowboatPirate LOL! Who doesn't like a good "faff",..you know,.... when its someone else's faff?! But really, on the canals, a faff is sometimes hard to identify what with the bump and grind burlesque style of navigation that so many seem to practice! ;)

Much has happened here. Monday we had there worst wind storm I’ve ever seen in interior Alaska . Stopped to check mail at the box. Was just thinking maybe I should turn around and good home when an emergency vehicle drove by with sirens at full blast and went down my road the kind for forest fires. Decided to get Zella to her mother. Most the way down the hill there were two trees across the road. I had my battery chainsaw so I started working on the first tree. Another fellow started on the second tree. I woke up to EMTs talking to me. Apparently a third tree fell on me. Laid up in hospital for awhile gash on my head. Fractured specula on the left side with bartered ribs. The whole arm is very bruised. Drink a shot of rum and sing me a song.
Oh noooooooo …. I’m so glad you are ok, what an awful thing to happen …. You were very very lucky as not many will survive a tree landing on them …. Please take care of yourself and get plenty of rest 🏴☠️

I realised how convenient your brass throttle wheel is, much more precise revving. But what do you use to switch the prop to reverse? Maybe you have a previous video to refer to?
Heidi - I notice that some of the other boats have a canvas screen at the stern where you stand, but haven't seen you use one yet - wouldn't it be a good thing to have when it pours?, or is it that it restricts visibility. (Derek)
Yeah I’ve just watched …. The problem is at the moment is loads of canals are shut due to a massive water shortage too …. I’m just focusing on my website at the moment as not many people about at all, the hot weather is making them stay home … i took £37 trading at Anderton last weekend … it’s a weird, tough year

Just an observation… the cattle your sharing the morning with do not seem to have some “essential gear” so they might be steers, not bulls. That might account for their rather docile demeanor. 😍
Steers can be somewhat aggressive, if you keep in mind they might be upset about loosing their gear! But they generally can be scared off by a show of “bullish behavior “. 😎
I shamefully made a cow jump once,I told my lads to be home by six we were going out and they needed food, in my defence I didn't see the cow what I saw was two kids playing footie covered in mud and muck, what the cow heard was '' Whatttheelldoyouthinkykurdoinggyoulittle..beeps...The poor cow jumped at least six feet,lost it's cud,and took off like Usain Bolt pooing itself right across the field ..OMG I felt awful ,Bloody kids

You have a life jacket on because your apparently smarter than most boaters, my rule would be if the boat is moving then the life jacket is worn at all times. That’s my rule in my speed boat and I’ve had guest say no they wouldn’t wear one..they didn’t go on boat , my boat…my rules 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You can stand up if you fall in here in canals 😂😂 … the only time they are a requirement is on tidal rivers here

How amazing, meeting up with two of my favourite narrowboat vloggers who I have been following since they started vlogging.
I have met the crew of Morning Star and had a cup of coffee aboard then I gave them a lift back to pick up their car.

So that's what those splitter things are for. I went up on a cog-railway in a coal-fired steam train once, and got a face-full of mess when it blew its load and it came in through the windows. By the time I went down again, I had more soot on my face than a Mary Poppins chimney sweep back-up dancer.

A steam powered train with open viewing cars is a bit messy when going through a tunnel. Those who know better retreat to a closed passenger car ahead of time.

@@TheNarrowboatPirate I'm glad that conditions have improved. Here in the states heat waves can last for weeks. That is why most homes have air conditioning. Yes I think that’s why I have a much bigger prop than a normal boat to compensate for my low revving engine but I do struggle on shallow canals as my boat sits lower in the water 🏴☠️
@@TheNarrowboatPirate Well,...with the depth of the canals being a bit of an issue now and then I guess there is always a trade-off but I would still prefer the Lister and the big propeller, even if it does scoop up stuff from the bottom of the canal now and then.
I think you could tow your friends on the river and not loose much speed or burn much more fuel! Heavy iron is the best!!

Much has happened here. Monday we had there worst wind storm I’ve ever seen in interior Alaska . Stopped to check mail at the box. Was just thinking maybe I should turn around and good home when an emergency vehicle drove by with sirens at full blast and went down my road the kind for forest fires. Decided to get Zella to her mother. Most the way down the hill there were two trees across the road. I had my battery chainsaw so I started working on the first tree. Another fellow started on the second tree. I woke up to EMTs talking to me. Apparently a third tree fell on me. Laid up in hospital for awhile gash on my head. Fractured specula on the left side with bartered ribs. The whole arm is very bruised. Drink a shot of rum and sing me a song.

Just an observation… the cattle your sharing the morning with do not seem to have some “essential gear” so they might be steers, not bulls. That might account for their rather docile demeanor. 😍

Steers can be somewhat aggressive, if you keep in mind they might be upset about loosing their gear! But they generally can be scared off by a show of “bullish behavior “. 😎

I shamefully made a cow jump once,I told my lads to be home by six we were going out and they needed food, in my defence I didn't see the cow what I saw was two kids playing footie covered in mud and muck, what the cow heard was '' Whatttheelldoyouthinkykurdoinggyoulittle..beeps...The poor cow jumped at least six feet,lost it's cud,and took off like Usain Bolt pooing itself right across the field ..OMG I felt awful ,Bloody kids
