Watching this is making me think about playing some more p99. Seeing the Qeynos entrance and then the Flippy Darkpaw shout in your chat was just nostalgia gold. Thank you!
Good guide and plenty of good advice for newcomers. The only thing I'd add is a listing of great newbie quests in each starting zone, and a shopping list of items to collect depending on where you are. Skeletons and humanoids are always great hunting for everyone, but if you're starting as, say, a dark elf, you'll want to kill snakes for the Neriak rogue guild and fire beetles for the necro guild (if you have the faction for them, not every DE will). Kaladim has the bird folks to kill for their talons, which is another great quest, and so on.

Freeport is usually the "better" city due to being by the commonlands tunnel but Qeynos feels alive. I recall reading it was the first city they did, so you have like NPCs stop and walk away to the bar for a drink, it just feels like a real city.
Qeynos Hills and the Karanas are far better for leveling, though, and BB beats all sorts of stuffing out of CB. It really has the best early progression in the game. You can even go to Erud's Crossing and get yourself to nearly 20 in just the Qeynos area zones at pretty good speed.
Enjoying the videos. I've decided to take the plunge and try EQ for the first time at age 39 lol. It just seems to big sprawling, with deep, deep mechanics. Also I love the idea of needing to play cautious due to the death penalty. I think I might hold worlds record for fastest death. As soon as I loaded in I targeted an NPC, and hit Q to strafe... and promptly attacked the NPC and was killed. Welcome to Everquest I guess. ;)

I took a break from p99, but I'm just getting back into it again. My newest character is a lvl 14 Erudite CT worshiping Cleric. Living in the sewer tunnels of Qeynos is very fun!
If you ever do mid level quests again on blue, you should consider creating a guide for the Qeynos badge quests. It’s centered around Bertoxxulous and is a fun quest.
It's a fun questline but it's made for those opposed to Bertoxxulous. I wouldn't recommend doing them on a necromancer or that Bertoxx enchanter. xD I do kinda wish there were more deity related stuff in the game. Just a bit more something to make folks feel special for being on "team deity of choice" so to speak. Give folks a real genuine reason beyond fluff to be a Bertoxx enchanter and such.
If you're on red with a full group, even as an iksar monk with a 40% penalty, you will get 1% per kill in the bear pits in Permafrost .... on Green or Blue, it takes five polar bear kills to get 1% SOLO, and seven or eight in a full group. Just some food for thought. We also have bards who will pull the entire City of Mist at once and kite it down to power level you through half of 51 in less than fifteen minutes. True story. Come check it out!
The /assist command is supposed to turn on auto attack but for some reason below char level 20 or so /assist won't turn on auto attack if a red con mob is a few extra levels above you. I think they tried to protect new players from getting killed early or something but it was always annoying because we had to add an extra command "/attack on" to assist macros.

I am on P99 because of all the videos out there and the passion behind them. I miss this level of game content and difficulty. Today's games are garbage theme parks with high quality graphics and no substance. I have a 9 monk in CE right now, and while it is tedious farming for the mats for her sparring armor, it is fun and just takes me back. Your FPS seems to be pretty good. I notice on Green server it is terrible, is Blue optimized?
@@Learnerofthings That should be plenty. It might be worth checking your graphic settings in game to make sure the game is looking at your 1650 driver/GPU and not an on board GPU if you have one. What the hell happened between last video and this one? You had a robe and nothing, which is a robe ahead of me, and now you are out one tapping mobs to start this one. I thought I was going to be able to follow along a bit as a new player but I guess not.

It's WAY more fun than playing against AI-controlled mobs all the time. Give it a chance and send a tell to my shaman Devolved, or my monk Skinwalkin, or any other officer in Sanctuary. I like that nights actually get dark. MMO's dont really do that anymore.

Anyone know what UI he's using? Mine doesn't show XP on screen from what I could tell I had to open inventory to see it?

I always preferred not to turn attack on so i could double check i was on the right mob anyway :)
