At first I thought the spinner belt was only made for John Cena. I never understood why other wrestlers were holding the belt.

It's a shame because the belt that Eddie, Brock, and JBL had was very underrated and my favorite design of the actual WWE Championship

Unfortunately, Ryan is right. Otherwise, just think that in some other parallel universe, the spinner could be just another novelty belt like the smoking skull and brahma bull titles.
I assumed once Cena lost it, they'd bring back the old school belt back, especially once he dropped the Thuganomics gimmick.
It was hated because it overstayed its welcome and didn't make sense to be held by champions other than John Cena. But the Spinner isn't as sacriligeous as next two title designs that came after it. The Spinner belt, despite its posturing as a belt designed to go against the norm, actually respected tradition by at least incorporating an Eagle in its design which along with a Globe is a staple of world titles in the WWE. The next two belts that replaced the spinner are even worse as they are just WWE logos without anything adorning it. They look like something a 5-year old drew, cut and pasted together out of discarded cereal boxes.
To think that CM Punk’s 434 day reign, 3 WrestleMania main events, and Randy Orton, Edge, HHH & Batista had reigns with that toy of a belt.

Nah, the Spinner Belt looked looked good on other Wrestlers like Edge, Orton, Mysterio, CM Punk, Miz, etc. It just didn't look right on certain people like The Rock, Triple H, Batista, RVD, etc.
Most people associate the Spinner with John Cena & rightfully so has he introduced it. But for me, when I think of the Spinner I associate it with Randy Orton. The Spinner was the belt Randy Orton held when he really hit his stride & really started getting traction as an awesome heel once he broke away from the arrogant kid/legend killer gimmick & evolved into the Viper gimmick.
The Rock coming back and BURYING that belt was some of his best work 😊

@@michaelelohiminnocentmadia8128 Indeed, especially now that almost all of the titles look/are the same in appearances. Where Cena's "Spinner belt" damaged the prestige of the World Champion title, the prestige of nearly all of the title belts died the moment the Rock unveiled that new belt and the WWE went with that look for most of the other titles as well.

I always thought the spinner belt was lame until I held one of the expensive replicas. That's a bad ass belt, heavy too
Vince single handedly took wrestling to unprecedented new heights and also completely obliterated pro wrestling as a whole. Messing with the belts was one of many that helped to destroy things
I agree with Jim. The title was a standard of being prestigious and like he said “when you saw it, you know what it meant.”
Now it’s more treated like a prop and it’s even called a prop by modern fans and the wrestler.
Growing up watching the Ruthless Aggression era, I thought the spinner belt was the coolest thing lol. Looking back at the history of professional wrestling though, I can see now why the old school fans would dislike it. Adding a gimmick to the belt just further decreases the legitimacy of the sport.
Yeah I'm in that same boat rn cause I love prestigious titles like the IWGP championships and The NWA world titles.
I'm pretty biased cause I got into wrestling when Cena had the spinner belt in late 05 but man spinner aside it is a pretty belt you can't deny that.
I was 8 or 9 when that belt debuted, and I fucking loved it. It appealed to kids and made the wwe millions
The belt it replaced which was the Undisputed championship was so underused. Still the nicest looking title belt today and it was used for only two to three years... Spinner stayed for over 8 years!
My favorite belt design. Just bought one.
It suited john cena but should have been the 2002 undisputed style when others held the title. I do remember on some of the smackdown vs raw games, you could hold certain buttons to make it spin during entrances.
The current designs look more like a ring than a belt to me.

The thing with gimmick belts is they are just a cheap way to make the title yours. The truly great champions wear the real title proudly and make that title theirs.
Like when I think of the classic winged eagle belt, thats Bret Hart's belt. When I think of the big circular WWF title, that's The Rock's belt. When I think of the original WWE title, thats Eddie Guerrero's belt. When I think of the big gold WCW belt, I think of Ric Flair or Triple H.
The great champions make themselves a part of the title's history, so that future champions can inherit that legacy. And the greatest ones become associated with that belt. If you have to mess with the belt to make it yours, thats just a shortcut to cementing your legacy.

Tbh the spinner belt only looks bad if older wrestlers like hhh, Michaels and undertaker were to hold it, but it looked great on guys like cena ( who it was made for ) randy orton ( 09 orton especially ), edge, Jeff hardy snd cm punk because it fit the younger look while the world heavyweight championship was more for the veterans and it’s a shame we never got attitude era vs ruthless aggression properly but then I wonder which side would edge be on because he debut in the attitude era but hit his stride in ruthless aggression
Now I think about it that's true. If Undertaker had even won the WWE Spinner belt, it would look horrible on him whereas when he comes out with the World Heavyweight Championship it's great on him.
I liked the design
But sometimes, it works. Like when Lance Storm had three titles in WCW, and put the Canadian flag on each one because he was disrespecting them, he was trying to get that rise that the spinner belt got out of JR. Or one that seems rather innocuous- when WALTER became NXT UK champion, they made a new belt and presented it to him, and the belt looked better and was bigger, but it still wasn't specific to him. I'm not even a big fan of wrestlers having their name on the belt- you are just holding the belt until someone better than you comes along and takes it.

Hated that belt and the fact that they kept it for so long even though it was supposed to be just a Cena gimmick belt then they went and made worse ones.

I loved that belt growing up John cena really stepped his game up that belt has Rap Hip Hop written all over it plus around that time Wrestling Hip Hop and John Cena worked well together.

The spinner belt lasted for so long because it was a great belt. The issue with todays belts is the uniformity and lack of character

Once other guys started holding the spinner belt I slowly began to lose interest. It looked goofy after a while. Honestly I loved the look of the Undisputed Title, wish it had a longer run.
The spinner belt was terrible the smoking Skull Belt was more iconic than the spinner belt in my opinion

I thought the spinner belt was hilarious as it played into his ridiculous yet highly entertaining gimmick back then. Cena at his peak in my opinion.
Personally, I liked the old WCW US Heavyweight title belt and the AWA World title belt.
I hated it. When they unified the Attitude winged eagle and the big gold and we got the v1 undisputed belt that we fans liked the look of it made sense to make a new belt to represent a new championship but when they decided to bring back the big gold on Raw the 90s winged eagle or the Attitude eagle belt should have been brought back . That's my opinion anyway

Best belt only if you were growing up during the time. I could say the current belt is trash, but it fits the times now. When the belt didn’t spin anymore imo I think it added back the prestige and subtracted the gimmick of the belt. Randy made it look good, HHH did, and so did Jeff and Edge. I just think the OG wrestling fans weren’t to thrilled for a prestigious title that’s been around for so long turn into a prop that sold well.

Even today’s WWE title doesn’t have a great look. It’s just leather with the corporate logo. I’m glad AEW and NJPW have gorgeous looking belts. Hopefully when Cody wins the title he brings the winged title back.
God... I still dream of what it was like to hold that crumbled up and used.. One dollar bill title known as the Hardcore championship in the 90's!!! It was the worst built and less appealing championship.. But i felt was the best championship at the time of the attitude era!😔 (Aside from the modern championships)

The wwe spinner Championship was made for cena but the u.s spinner belt could of been for everyone the u.s spinner actually looked good.
Soon as cena lost it they should of bring back the original. And honestly I dislike when I play older wrestling games all the characters have to rock that belt.
Cena won it back 3 weeks later and held the title for another 5 Months though unless you meant 2008 where it was on SmackDown while Cena was on Raw.
Dude straight up love the spinner belt, Cena and the spinner belt were the things that made me get in to wrestling, his feud with Edge still to this day is my favorite rivalry, I get the hate behind the belt it's not for everyone, but I still think most haters just hate on it to be "cool", and I do agree Cena should have always been the one to held the spinner version of the championship, it should have been retired when randy held it for the very first time at no mercy 2007, it was designed and made for Cena at that time where he was the "chaingang soldier" which was between 2005 to 2007, when he came back from his injury that gimmick was slowly fading away in to his "cenation" fase and by that time it made no sense for the spinner belt to still be active

By the time the "Spinner Belt" was out, I was long gone as a fan. But today's belts are not only ugly, they are also meaningless. There are too many, and they are ugly.

When there are 2 world titles, and every jackass in the entire locker room gets to be world champion at some point, and they change multiple times a year, being world champion becomes meaningless. And when the belts are ugly to look at, even worse.

The idea was that it was a gimmick belt that fit with Cena's style at the time. Just like the US spinner title. It revered back to the standard US title after Cena lost it. Just odd that for some reason when Cena eventually lost the WWE Championship, they still kept the spinner belt and didn't revert back to the Undisputed design.
The spinner belt looks better than the current titles on WWE. It was unique and creative. Today’s title looks bland. I’ll take the spinner title any day.

Well, how GD DUMB was it that the Winged Eagle was NEVER marketed properly until WAY later after it's retirement?! I would have sold my back teeth to have an accurate WWF Heavyweight Champion belt during the Shawn Michaels reigns as a kid. If making money was the name of the game, somebody dropped the ball on that play.
I liked when they made the belt stop spinning.Once they did that I feel like it made the belt look a lot better.
I don't hate the spinner nearly as much as a grown adult, I despised it when I was a kid. It's one of the worst WWE belt designs all the same, I would be a lot less harsh on it if it said "champion" instead of "champ". The non spinning version was best, of course.
CM Punk looked awesome with this title. The only time it spinned was when Cena was holding it anyway
I never thought the spinner belt was anything but ridiculous. I understand I'm in the minority when it comes to that concept, but when I think of Championship Belts, the Spinner belt is seriously very low on the totem pole. Million Dollar belt, Smokin' Skull belt, etc? I can go with that. Spinner belt? Er...why? To make it resemble a CD? Or a record? I...don't get it. At all.

It’s definitely a bit hokey, but a lot better than people give it credit for. At least it’s a lot more recognizable and memorable than the majority of other titles- the current IC & USA belts are bland and atrocious.
I wouldn't say "better". Comparing the spinner to those generic title designs is like comparing horseshit to cowshit. Both are different from each other, but they both stink.
The Spinner Belt was a believable weapon
This is an entertainment show. These are stuntmen who get to be the stars of the show. Marketing is everything. It's pretty much the whole product. The belt isn't a real championship. It can't be any more cheapened than having the winners be scripted. I'm not mad at Jim, but good god, could you imagine how boring it would be to go back to the days of Bruno Sammartino being the only champion for a decade? Jim came up in the kayfabe era, which did more to hurt all brands of professional wrestling than anything else ever. But it's why he has this 'honor the past' mentality about a fake sport. Guys with Jim's mentality here are the reason you still get asked 'you know it's all fake, right?' when you tell someone you're a wrestling fan. All that said, the WWE title spinner belt was just shitty looking and shouldn't have lasted nearly as long as it did (especially since the spinner rims they were based on went out of style way before the belt got tossed). Not gonna lie, I thought the US title spinner belt was actually kind of cool looking as a short term gimmick.

The first version of the spinner belt looked absolutely terrible. The colors were muted, it looked pretty small in comparison to the big gold, oh and it fucking spinned. But the updated version that was used from 2007 to 2013 is a much better looking belt. In fact I actually think it's a good looking championship. Still don't like that it says champ, but I think it's still a unique looking design especially compared to what we have now. I also think the belt looks really great on the likes of Randy Orton, CM Punk, and Triple H. Despite it always being called John Cena's belt.
If it is contributing to the elevation of the company that is all that should matter. I will agree the belt was not for everyone and really matched only Cena’s character. The company flourished with Cena being the top guy. Screw tradition show me RESULTS! Ross reminds of people from the older generation who thinks everything from their era is golden and still is a fit for today when it clearly is not.
I know some fans who assumed that it was the downfall of ratings, which sounds like a Conspiracy Theory 😂
