Devildriver overlord Dez Farara will readily acknowledge the basic tenet of heavy metal is to achieve the essence of power and complete freedom. At the most base level, it's a concept that can manifest itself in the form of a high-speed joyride or defeating one's antagonists, be they Frank Frazetta-rendered warriors or the guy/girl who was looking at your lover too long at the biker bar and now has a concussion and a collection of broken pool cues. On Devildriver's sixth release, Winter Kills, the band certainly didn't skimp on the riffage, the idling-dragster tempos or the sheer sonic drive that makes them one of heavy music's respected outfits. Winter Kills is all about the creation of flashover moments to empower people with hope and affirmation-or at the very least, the inspiration for people to create great work and engineer their own meaningful universes. This ain't no tired Tony Robbins posi-posturing or Joel Osteen's cartoony, cash-and-Christ posing. The world got more oppressive, and Devildriver are stepping up their game to keep hope alive in the most bone-powdering, cochlea-bleeding, neck-snapping way possible.

There's nothing wrong with the original, but there's everything right with the Devildriver version.

It's no secret that metal can make any song their own. I mean sure the person that originally wrote this pours his heart out, but when you have someone literally scream it out, you can actually feel the pain. This is how I feel anyway, living with PTSD, Metal saved my life. It was the only thing I could listen to and feel okay. Great job DevilDriver

This song, both DevilDrivers and the original helps me be in touch with my dead grandpa. I was raised on a sail boat for about 15 years. I was also an Iraq war vet so the anxiety lines really hit me hard. Love this song.

I can't believe I've never really heard about DevilDriver from people or around or anyting up in the Metal Fusion years but I don't go around listening to nu-metal so much. Sadly I actually found this because I was looking up Smoke Hole chamber nose is wondering what happened to the lead singer Dez. Glad I found them I don't have to spread the word Eileen everybody that I don't listen to metal would be interested in hearing this I don't know that we haven't yet DevilDriver needs advertised more not enough people know they're out there or that does even as a noob and nobody's talked about Coal Chamber does always sounded literally like a monster. LOL he's an amazing musician. I'm a big fan I wish I could sing like that but I can't so I just play the guitar and bass damn wish I could scream like Dez.
