I'm 26 now but had an old beat up first year when I was young we rode it until the frame snapped in HALF! found one during a barn find a few years ago put it on the bench, restored it & I've been riding it every weekend since, put a lift & 45t on the rear they're amazing bikes!
I got a 93 (white/purple that year) for my 5th birthday. Sold it still running good 30years later after running it every year winter even lol..found a mint blue one exact to that mint maybe 20hrs I love it. Got it for my sons 5th birthday soon!...I forgot how powerful they were wow lol I took the muffler off gave it even more power and sounds wicked! Yea I speed tested it and stock they do 45mph. Mine lost power after 20years but still ran good probably still out there running.. awesome bulletproof bikes for sure! Yamaha be pissing me off lately dropping these gems and now the 600? Grrrr
I'm 31 years old and still have my PW80 my dad got for me when I was 11 years old. 20 years later and she still runs great. Though I've gotta say bud when they were referring to the big brother, they weren't talking about the YZ125 and YZ250. They were referring to the YZ80 which is much faster than this bike. The PW80 has a lower compression air cooler 80cc and you cant compare it to the water cooled high compression engine in the YZ80. (Also 3 speed vs 6)That doesn't mean the YZ is better than the PW, it was just aimed at a different age group.
SJay those pws make about the power of a ttr90 or a crf70. my cr85 (race bike) pro circuit pipe, renthals, acerbis plastics acerbis hand guards pivot levers... will easily keep up with a klx140 it’ll murder klx/ttr 125s easily it goes it’ll do 65 and wheelie in 5th and 6th uphill when you hit powerband. Downhill it’ll wheelie in 4th easily but it’ll kill the 125 4 strokes and keep up with the klx140
daniel jordan nicol short wheel base ported polished hot rods bottom end shaved head with the pipe you’re pushing 26hp out of a 145lb bike with me a 145lb rider on it it’s easy to lift. The bigger bikes are engineered to be balanced and keep the front wheel down as much as possible for traction

lol a 125 4 stroke would smoke it purely on gearing alone, my pw80 was slightly faster than my friends ttr90
