I grew up in Sherman Oaks and this so-called river ran behind our house; we called it 'the wash' and still do. We had a lot of summertime play down on the edge and actually went down in it a few times.

When I was a child in the early 60's I remember riding in the back of the family stationwagon, always watching for the cat faces painted on the giant hatch like doors on the banks of the river along I-5 corridor in Glendale/Griffith. Every cat face was different. I was fascinated. It in was special to me. Those were the days of fishing for crawdads with bologna at Fern Dell Park, Travel Town, drive in theaters and eating at the car hop at Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake.

I always enjoyed going to the river we lived in highland park and we would walk or ride our bikes and go all the way to PASADENA and la Canada we would go to so.PASADENA golf course collect the balls that went in the river and get to play free miniature golf and we would go in the tunnels with lights and enjoy life being able to do these things back then man life was nice back then simple great neighborhood friends nice nice summers I sure which kids could do simple and enjoyable things outside and enjoy the great outdoors. So I say keep up the good work and bring back the river for future generations 👍🏼

Up stream detention is essential. The woodlands are slowly drying up in the mountains because of diverting flows away from natural lakes and sag ponds. These now dry lakes used to allow water to percolate into the soil and recharge the water table. Now this water is diverted to water treatment facilities and diversion channels only to flow out into the ocean. Hence the horrible wildfires.

    Go California!
This represents "the spirit" that I feel is "the USA" I was taught to be proud of -
A great gathering of efforts to accomplish a giant goal that serves the public AND ALL the elements of the planet we share.
It is one of the greatest public and environmental documentaries I've ever seen!
This is "Raising the Vibe"for us, our planet, and our Universe.
We are part of a whole - what we do to our planet effects the whole of our universe.
    That should calibrate "human egos"!
    Peace -

I would be so pleased to hear of a completed positive outcome and iI have no clue who or how many combined their efforts to tackle this project - but I would definitely love to see them, as a team, apply those talents at the Federal Level.
Great respect for them - if you can - please pass that on -
      Thank you

*WHEN I HEARD THE MAN SAY THAT HIS FATHER USED TO LOOK OVER THE RIVER WHEN HE TOOK HIS LUNCH BREAKS AND THAT IN HONOR OF HIS FATHER THEY ERECTED A PARK BENCH NEXT TO THE RIVER...WELL, MY HEART JUST CLENCHED. I NOTICED THE NUMBER OF VIEWS AND THUMBS UP...I JUST HAD TO SUB. IT'S VIDEOS LIKE THESE, THE GEMS UNSEEN THAT NEED TO BE SHARED FOR MORE PEOPLE TO ENJOY. PUBLISHED IN 2012~ IT IS NOW JULY 13TH 2020...SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH SOCIETY AND THE MADMEN RUNNING THE WORLD. I'M NOT TRYING TO MAKE WAVES BUT WHY IS IT THAT NO EXTREME WEATHER EVER HITS LOS ANGELES AND THE SURROUNDING COUNTIES AND VALLEYS? THERE IS A REASON AND IT IS LINKED WITH THE CHEMTRAILS. WHY ARE THE UNINCORPORATED TOWNS IN THE MIDWEST BEING FLOODED YEARLY...THERE IS A REASON AND IT IS NOT NATURAL, NOR GOOD AT ALL... JUST SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.*

They need to retain the river open up areas for deeper and larger retention allowing the river to supply the underground aquifer. Slow down the water merely going into the river. There are many plants that purify water creating clear water.

When I was 8, I lived in Frog Town during the '71 earthquake. My mom used to take my younger sister and I down the side of the river to collect pollywogs. The dichotomy of being poor and rich during those times.

Flood control is cetainly necessary but... In Northern California the water is retained in resovoirs that are large enough to keep the water needed and maintain the flow downstream for the most part in a controllable fashion. To let all that water escape to the sea and then transport water all the way from the Delta seems as ludicrous as it is harmful to the Delta's vitality. The problem is that there are a lot more voters in the Southland that enables them to be myopic in what they want and do to others.

this is exactly what LA needs , every city especially a big metropolis need to be turn for the river ... before people tried to extinguish their water lines and all the biology on it and that needs o be part of the city for sure so people can live in there...

The graffiti is horrible empty selfish uncaring minds have no right to vandalize public property. That is tax payers property. Public not private. Selfish uncaring people have no right forcing their empty untalented vandalism on public property. Go graffiti Chase bank see if they care. Public property means it is not private property giving noone permission to vandalize. I love art. I value artist who do murals art is art graffiti is graffiti. I could have the grafitit artist do well thought out paintings on buildings that would be an asset. Mindless doodling does not belong on public property.

I don’t live in Los Angeles but love the fact that the people are taking responsibility to clean up the eco system. I think the manufacturers of the trash should be sued for indirectly polluting the eco system. Until they become more responsible for the products they create that we purchase. You cannot hold the purchaser responsible for the pollution when the manufacturers have created the pollution to begin with. This will hopefully make them more conscious when selling they’re not so biodegradable products. Law suit after lawsuit will be the only means of cleaning the man made pollution from the gift God gave us. But also remember they we are a free people and our travels should not be inhibited to explore these beautiful lands by a government.

I live in L.A. and you're somewhat delusional. Politicians talk the talk but DO NOT walk the walk. Each councilperson has approximately $2.9 million of discretionary funds they can use however they see fit for their own districts. Yet 95% have spent a dollar towards cleaning up L.A. Dreamers who you see picking up trash along the river/beach - G-d bless them. But that drive doesn't last long. What's the answer??? CIty needs to ENFORCE fines for littering, etc. and we'll see a difference. Applying monetary fines have works before, but you wont see it any time soon. Why, 74% of people who use public land make less then $40K/yr. Democrats wont penalize the 'poor' folks.

I never considered it a river growing up. It doesn't have continuous flow year round and so many areas where the water is stagment. And with all the massive concrete it looks like a sewage or water diversion waterway. Go see a real river. Sacramento river or feather river.

Nice video and I don’t take away from many peoples memories and the important function it serves, but folks this is not a “real river”. I’ve lived in LA (moved almost 7 years ago thank god) and it’s dry/stagnant most of the year, and it’s often nasty storm runoff. Yuck...Sacramento River, Columbia river, these are rivers. Go check it out and compare sometime

This video is dated Oct 24, 2012, but just now showed up. Has anything changed in the past 10+ years? Oh, they have more homeless people living along the river. One thing I've noticed about the Los Angelenos is that they are (collectively) very messy. They throw trash all over the place, never bother to pick up after themselves and are generally don't care. Do you think I'm wrong? Just look along the street as you drive down any LA road and you'll see trash all over the place. Sorry, people need to be educated before any beatification can work

The LA River in it's pre-flood channel state was deadly to people & property.
If you want a nice river that has water in it all year long you would have to go to a different state that has water in it's river naturally.

Okay, so here's the thing: a 'river' doesn't have tens of millions of dollars of labor and manpower invested it in by the government.
I understand that you're passionate about the L.A. River, but at the same time, you have to understand that it's an investment - and rich men will always protect their investments. There's no getting around this.
The only way to fight money is with money.

Seriously? I see no point in your statement. A natural beautiful river will raise property value on and near it exponentially, it’s a solid public investment and that’s not even getting into the benefits of storing the water.
