i suffer from social phobia, online i'm able to be myself a little more, in person i'm a wreck, it takes me up to 9 months to even strike up a conversation with people i want to talk to. I don't even go out drinking, i stay at home and drink instead (most of the time alone) i have a handful of people i talk to, only a couple of them i even trust fully as i am hugely paranoid (even in my own home) doorbell camera's and all sorts, so seeing someone go out with social anxieties (supposedly crippling ) just baffles my brain entirely, i wish i could be that confident :(

I don't lol. I go to school online, studying to become an online teacher, and I'm not talking to people unless if I have to or someone approaches me lol. When I was working, it was in dental where I talked to a patient maybe for ten minutes because we were waiting for the dentist lol.
i literally left work and later uni, partly due to my crippling anxiety. i can only go out, in the way she does, if i’ve got friends with me and substances (meaning anti-anxieties) already in my system 😅 if her anxiety is as serious as she claims, there would (unfortunately) be candid, unscripted videos from bystanders of her having panic attacks and anxiety attacks in public. not because people are awful (even though they are), but because of how she’s gained her notoriety and the people she surrounds herself with. i don’t really get the whole hype around claiming to have anxiety disorders or any form of mental health issue or disorder (neurodivergence included). i’m open about having severe, chronic anxiety, because (if people dare perceive me) it’s bloody obvious. it pierces through any form of “masking” i try to instill, i phase out of this universe and stare into the meaningless void until someone manages to snap me out of it 😅 and i have had panic attacks in public, in the middle of the bus station or a convention or literally anywhere. it’s humiliating and i wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy 🙄

Alcohol absolutely can make social anxiety lessen in the moment, in the long run it’s not a good coping skill but it does work for a while. I think it’s ridiculous that people would assume you can’t have a mental illness because a substance changes how that affects you. That’s literally how medication work. I don’t stop having ptsd just because Effexor made it easier to manage. Again I’m not saying alcohol is at all a healthy option for coping but these are my thoughts on that specific idea as someone who’s used alcohol to help calm down anxiety enough to sleep.

Autistic people can be susceptible to substance abuse issues because of the social anxiety point you brought up. Not trying to excuse alcoholism, but just understand better why there are people like worldoftshirts etc.
As someone with anxiety, ADHD, etc (lol) i feel like we all have different levels of self awareness as well as different levels of shame. It can link back to if your parents used shame as a tool to discipline you, which can be done properly but you need emotional maturity and the ability to understand & ask the needed questions. Personally, my parents shamed me for my ADHD and anxiety, which caused more anxiety. Some people never feel bad for what they do because they believe they are entitled and deserve whatever they want, regardless.
