May 15, 2020 - Dr. Maika's Message

Each week, I want to update you on the latest District news. Now more than ever you deserve these updates, especially when each day brings us more questions.
Something most of you are probably wondering is, “When we go back to school, what will that look like?”
As of now, we aren’t exactly sure. We are waiting for more guidance from the Texas Education Agency and are looking at several different scenarios.
You might have seen in the media other Districts talking about their plans to extend the school year or perhaps stagger schedules. Many things are on the table at this point as we put together a back-to-school plan that is safest for everyone.
We understand that parents may be worried about sending their students back to school for the first time, so I don’t take any of these decisions lightly.
Our students need time to catch up, they need access to a robust curriculum, and they need to receive all the basic resources they’ve come to rely on including healthy meals, transportation, after-school care, extracurricular activities, nursing, counseling and special support services. How will our facilities support all of these, while still maintaining necessary safety measures?
There’s a lot to take into consideration, but please know that we are working every day to find the best solution.

I vote year round with two or three week breaks...or maybe no school during flu season.. and attend the rest of the year until a vaccine is made. Either way thank you for helping keep our community safe!
