@@tmcbgrrl0074I’m so sorry, that’s hard! She clearly needs help, if it’s possible she should start using the envelope system. Disconnect and cancel every card she has access to. Every week she gets an envelope with exactly the money she needs for real expenses- groceries, etc. A lot of people benefit from being able to see the money they’re spending, and when the envelope is empty, it’s empty. Above all she needs to figure out why she needs to buy so much on Amazon and fix her root issue.

We learn a lot of that in math class, though. I remember those word problems about how to calculate interest and compound interest, especially. Schools don't have time to teach us everything, but they teach us critical thinking skills and basic math, which should be a good start for learning the rest. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I don't think a lack of knowledge of these things is the main problem - it's folks spending to impress others and thinking the money will never dry up.

Why are we raising girls (primarily girls) to either not be able to see what is true or not, or to crave something that is so empty and illusory? I think, as parents, we have failed abjectly. I cleaned my debt up in my twenties, had a perfect credit score, then got divorced and filed for bankruptcy in my thirties. Then when you file for bankruptcy, they bombard you with buying a car and opening credit cards. It's just another trap to get you back into the cycle. I now have no debt, no credit cards and buy everything locally. I REFUSE to get caught again. I also live waaayyyyy below the poverty level, on purpose, because I've taught myself to only purchase necessities. I might buy something nice once a year, but not often. The real quote is along the lines of "I would compare myself to edited pictures of models like Miranda Kerr in magazines" which is a lot less silly and a lot more real. I think the experience of body dysmorphia/disordered eating is the only thing most will have in common with Christie. While I agree to an extent, it is very hard for some people to escape the pressure and influence of what is portrayed in social media, the media in general, and pressure from friends. Financial responsibility is not taught to most kids or teens, and many people go bankrupt. There are also many financial institutions (ie credit card companies) that promise people easy funds. They purposely prey on susceptible people. Yes vanity is a problem but there are a ton of institutions enabling spending. The phrase “keeping up with the Joneses” is around for a reason too. I dunno. There are just a lot of influences and not a lot of education about the consequences.

My parents always said to never take out loans. Stay away from loans as best as you can.
When it comes to items in general my advice would be to think about it. Do you really need it? How often will you use it?
Think about it and then come back to it and see if you really need it or if it was just a temporary urge to get it.
You don't need designer bags. Get a normal one with more space to carry your things.

There are good loans and bad loans.
Buying a house with a mortgage to get on the property ladder has historically been a good move. There may be advantages to borrowing to make retirement contributions before a tax filing deadline, etc.
Carrying a balance on a high interest credit card because you spend more money than you make is on the other end of the spectrum.

    • @SC-wb2bq
      @SC-wb2bq 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Depends on what the loan is for. If it's for building wealth and assets, it's a good thing, if you are buying something that will only depreciate then its definitely a bad idea

John D Rockefeller said - 'America needs to be a nation of workers, not a nation of thinkers' they only needed us for our labour and that's when we had a baby boom. Now they have robots they don't even want a nation anymore which is why all major western political parties are tanking our nations. We're a debt based economy in a great depression and it was always meant to come down crashing and burning as we move into the 4th industrial revolution. Which means the end of capitalism and the beginning of a technocratic feudalist corporate system. Worse than 1984 lol I could go on for days..we're all doomed. Most people have no idea what's coming

This was amazing and I totally agree that many people aren’t taught how to manage their finances properly. However, some people are just plan stupid when it comes to money and there is no helping them. Example: my ex inherited 100k when his mother passed away. He was strongly encouraged and advised by successful family members to be smart with it and invest wisely. Being the arrogant man that he was he decided he knew better. He immediately quit his job, spent everyday eating out and going to the bar, bought drinks for everyone, soaked up all the attention and then was shocked when the money ran out in less than 8 months. He thought it would last him 5+ years.

I don't understand how he thought $100,000 would last him 5+ years!! 😮 it reminds me of when you watch those crazy murder shows where somebody kills their spouse for insurance money. I am always shocked, like, bro?! You literally MURDERED someone for an amount of money that will maybe last a year if you're lucky. And not even a random person, someone you vowed to love the rest of your life. People are crazy 🥴

It's pretty rare that bankruptcy actually helps, because it doesn't change the person's spending habits or relationship with money. She's just doesn't want to put in the work to get her "stuff" in order. We are going to be paying off her stupid purchases with higher rates, more fees, etc.

My grandma was such a woman, which is one of the reasons I grew up poor and that taught me a lot abbout money, as well as seeing all the money hungry wolves in my family backstab eachother for leftovers of the family fortune as a kid.

I work in finance and have seen the bankruptcy of influencers. Everyone needs to budget, you can still allow for fun, but it needs to be planned. And yes, live below your means is perfect because you can’t eat a handbag.
Personal lesson for me and stupid spending, I drove 3 BMWs into the ground in a short period. The up keep and gas was so expensive, the miles I needed to drive were killing the cars. I drive a Honda now, zero issues, cheap maintenance, cheap gas, just keeps going.

Thank you so much for addressing such an important topic! It's crazy what kind of "lifestyle" these irresponsible influencers are imposing on young people who are so easy to be brainwashed.
I just felt the need to add my thought about teaching children about money responsibility in school: In my opinion it is not really the school's responsibility to educate children about taxes or whatever involves spending money correctly. I can hardly imagine that young people at the age of 16 or 18 are very interested in taxes and by the time most of them get to spend time on taxes, they will have forgotten everything about it. It is rather important that their parents and their environment teach them to act in a responsible way with money and to spend or save it correctly. We should not forget how important private influence and the parent's view on money is on young children. It all starts with pocket money and presents and goes on to managing a first bank account and this is how family should be an adequate influencer. We can only imagine how bad of a good impact these families were on those broke influencers...
