I remember my first confrontation working on a night club door, after 12 years of martial arts, the adrenaline kicked in before the action started, just through verbal . Even my speech became shakey . When it kicked off i was ok, but how that gap between vebal and action ,i was a target. I soon learnt that the verbal is a very important set up tool for what you are describing here, a blitzkrieg.

Well said. I've found for me that visualization is a very valuable training tool, having had some sort of actual physical training experience to help with the visualization. If you can realistically replicate the scenario in your head, even down to the sounds, smells and sensations that you might feel, then the brain truly doesn't know the difference between real and imagined and hard wiring can occur.

Attacking first can be a bad idea.

@@JasonVoorheesFriday13thwhen would it be a bad idea?

    • @JasonVoorheesFriday13th

@@okabear1 Well I mean if someone hasn't attacked you and you start hitting them repeatedly because you believe they will attack you then to CCTV cameras or bystanders they will think you are the aggressor and you could end up in court and also if the person wasn't actually going to attack you but you palm striked them because you thought they would attack you and they pulled out a knife and stabbed you because you hit them then you would be screwed then as well. I've been in a lot of situations and seen them were people have squared up to me/others and said things like "i'm gonna knock you out etc" then it just never happens and the situation calms down.

@@JasonVoorheesFriday13th yeah that makes sense. The 1st plan of action is awareness and avoidance but if you can't avoid and you have the awareness to read the situation; to read your opponents and spot those signs that it's going to kick off, if it is you have to be pre emptive.

@@okabear1 Completely agree and under UK law if you genuinely believe you are going to be attacked you can strike first. You just have to be sure.

How do people without an inner voice, internal narrative or mind's eye train this kind of visualisation? I'm not one of those people myself but understand that people without a mind's eye (or inner voice) are not an insignificant sub-set of the population? Somewhere in the region of 1-5%?
